The minimum wage for an apprentice is £2.50 an hour.0
-
In 1985 I started my apprenticeship for £40 a week and cycled a round trip of 18 miles a day.
I believe I was on about £15 a week more than my mates on the dole at the time and catching buses would have reduced even that.
If somebody has enough within them to get on in life then distance and money come second for just a few years when one is young.0 -
The pay for an apprentice may be poor but your getting real training and qualifications as well as being paid. Compared to the 40k+ of debt you are likely incur getting a degree actually getting paid £2.50 an hour doesn't seem that bad. There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.0 -
Have you placed the vacancy with the local Connexions office and any neighbouring schools?0

What sort of times are you looking at finishing? If I had a 16-19yo then *possibly* I could BUT we have a 2nd car, with hubby working away o/night erratically without one we wouldn't be able to, I have to get up for work the next day myself, unlike teenager who can presumably sleep in and start work later the following day? And I have a younger child who would possibly be in bed, so would have to come with us, or be left alone late at night. I am not surprised you are struggling to find someone.
Are you a completely out in the sticks place, or is there a village that you are close to that you could advertise the position there?0 -
Apprenticeship = exploitation, bet there isn't a job at the end of it, even if the apprentice turns out to be better than Jamie Oliver.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

Would you let your 17 yr old daughter cycle 15 miles down a major trunk road at 1AM? :eek:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
