The off-putting bit is the figures, there are too many numbers to keep track of, I tend to just gloss over the numbers unless it's something I'm particularly interested in, although I try to get my head around the tables as they show the comparisons between everything quite well.
Other than that it's definitely worth getting, there have been a good few things that surprised me, things you don't consider like cycling to work - if you only keep your bike for a few years the initial environmental cost may be worse than driving a car you keep for 5 years or more - also if you get to work and have a shower the environmental savings are blown out of the water!! Also; anything more than a 7 minute shower (IIRC) is the same or worse than having a bath!
You need to decide if you're 'doing your bit' for the environment or your own pocket!
