Not sure which product to use but I'd advise against pressure washing unless you're pretty sure you know how to do it propoerly.
high pressure removes the soft finish on a deck and can force water into the cells and voids present in an organic material like wood.
It can then leave the surface feeling/looking rough and needing sanded.

I'd go with your chosen cleaning product and a stiff broom. Use a hose rather than a power washer to rinse it off.

thanks for hints, I am also looking for a way to get rid of moss on block paved driveway
Can I ask if you dilute the soda crystals in water first, or brush onto paving in crystal form and then wash off?
    thanks

Just sprinkle the soda crystals on fairly thickly & then dampen them with a watering can.
Cos the soda crystals are so cheap ( approx 85p per kilo ) you can just chuck it on.
    And its safe to use..........

So I've done some reading on the RBT product (rbt247.com) and it sounds really good, I like the idea of preventing the moss growing back. So I've bought some and i'm going to try it out. I'm also going to try the Soda Crystals (thanks for the recommendation) and see if there is a noticeable difference to offset the extra cost.

Will let you know how it differs.

    £22.00 for 5 litres !!!!!!!!
Thought this was a money saving website.

I know, it did seem expensive but when I looked on amazon, the other moss killers were all about the same price for a 5litre container. And RBT covered up to 250 square metres, which was quite a bit more than the competition.

I havent had the chance to see the coverage on the Soda Crystals as my mrs put a load of it in our washing machine the second I bought them :)

Thanks for the tip on the pressure washer, will try the broom method when it arrives.
  • mrmulberry,

Would be great to hear some feedback from you regarding the RBT 24/7 product you ordered to treat your mum's decking/moss problem. Have you tried it out yet? Happy with the results? I've just moved house and the back garden has a patio area which is overrun with moss and general green slime. I obviously wanna get rid of it, but don't want to be doing it again and again every couple of months. On top of that, we've got a dog who is outside a fair bit so I want to make sure whatever I use won't do him any harm. The RBT 24/7 website seems to suggest the product is safe for use around animals - anyone any experience of using these sorts of products around dogs?

    Cheers :)

The postage costs for the 5 litre tin from RTB24/7 are £9.60:eek:, you cannot find this anywhere on their site as it is not there, I got the info by calling them, and have also been informed that within the next couple of weeks they are marketing it on Amazon in smaller quantities.

So the RBT247 has arrived today, won't get chance to try it till the weekend. Fingers crossed it stays dry. Will post thoughts afterward, thanks for all your comments so far.
  • As the weather was good this weekend I got to try out the RBT247 on my decking (To be honest i had high hopes for it as it wasnt cheap) I diluted it down as recommended and sprayed it onto the wood. That was all that was required, i the left it and came back out Sunday morning and it had got rid of the lot, I didn't even have to wash it down. I just brushed the wood with our outdoor broom which also got rid of the dust and grit and it was as good as new.

So from an effort point of view I'd have to give it 10/10, I can't comment on there sales point that it stops it reoccurring for 6months, will let you know later in the summer. There was no smell or staining so really pleased and I've got a lot left to try on other stuff. I'm going to try it on the guttering and the green house (apparently it's good for all that).

So if it came down in price it would be ideal, well that and if it also lives up to the 6 month claim.

Thanks for being so helpful, very much appreciated.
