I think for professional singing there should have a classical base in voice.0

try http://singingsolutions.com as they do a good free "starter" 6 video course which is good for learning basics as lessons can be expensive, I pay £25p/h and have them 3 times a week so unless she is serious about it she could end up spending a lot of money. My advice is to practise where ever possible and if she is wanting to go pro she will need to be prepared for bitter dissappointment as some people in the scene, even on the pub circuits can be mean, cliquey and b*tchier than you can believe! Youtube have some good video tutorials on scales, arpeggios and breathing excersizes which are really good for beginners
Also I suggest she tries something like www.singsnap.com (online karaoke site) so she can record herself on a webcam and listen back to see where mistakes are being made and it makes it easier to see what areas need improvement
HTH x and good luck to her!0 -

Something people forget is that the vocal chords are muscles and then can be strenghened but they also need to be nurtured and treated properly.
If she's serious about singing tell her to avoid coffee and alcohol as these will dry out the vocal chords
Also get her to warm up her vocal chords with vocal exercises, I think somewhere in the range of 15-20 minutes warming up will actually help prepare the vocal chords for singing.
Get her to sing for around 30-40 mins a day to start with but no more. She should also rest her vocal chords after so afternoon/evening practice after a day at work is better.
For lessons probably just worth looking online for local singing classes/tuition.
Hope that helps!0 -
Look for any local Natural Voice Practitioner (there's a website if you google). I'm lucky in that we have two ladies who run a community choir. I joined two and a half years ago. No musical knowledge is necessary and each session is uplifting and fun. There are seventy in our choir and we have weekly sessions culminating in a summer performance. I've learned such a lot. If you'd told me two years ago I'd be singing in Zimbabwean, Xhosa, Russian and Swedish among other languages I'd have laughed at you.Debt-Free as of 12th September 2017

Play on games like Rock Band or something and it shows you what pitch you're singing in and what it needs to be etc.
It helped me!
There are other games like Singstar which I've never played but I assume have similar features.Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. That depends on what singer she wants to be.If an amateur is her goal, buy some tutorial books and videos.
