Just to add another suggestion into the mix - I used 1001 carpet cleaner. My Vax had lived in the loft for several years and my blue carpet had turned a deathly dull grey. Several washes with 1001 in the machine - plus the hand attachements to ruffle up a bit and teh carpet looks as good as new. Of course my machine is out of warrenty.44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)

We bought a Vax Rapide Ultra last weekend, and with it you got a bottle of cleaner for it. When we looked at the price of the cleaner it's about £16 a bottle. Now with 2 doggies we are going to go through quite a bit
Does anyone have any suggestions for what we could use instead. You have to put the cleaner with water in a tank thing so i don't want anything that's going to bu**er the machine up
Help!!!
I always use automatic washing machine liquid - doesn't suds up; doesn't gunk the equipment; and removes most stains.Needs, NOT wants!

Hello everyone,
My carpets really need cleaning and although I am lucky enough to have a shampooer (sp?) I no longer have any of the v@x shampoo left . I really cannot afford to buy any so is there something cheaper that I can use in my carpet cleaner that will
do the job.
Thanks in advance.

Funnily wnough I was just talking about the same subject to a friend who is a property manager. He said if the carpets have at one time been shamppoed, just use the carpet cleaner without shampoo, there will be enough suds remaining in the carpet. He said a carpet will stay clean much longer if it has not been shampooed, once that happens the soap actually attracts the dirt.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

Thanks for that. I will give it go.

If the carpet is musty, sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda, leave overnight and then hoover it up in the morning.
To brighten a carpet, dip a clean broom or wrung out cloth into 1 cup white vinegar/one gallon of water and brush the carpet. No need to rinse.
To remove light carpet stains, mix 2 tbsp of salt with half a cup of vinegar.Rub onto carpet stain and let dry.Once dry, hoover it off.0 -

I've found this too. However, a bit of ammonia works great in the water when cleaning carpets and it doesn't leave a residue as ammonia evaporates fully in to the air after a while.0 -
