Living on benefits whilst telling students to get a job is just plain odd. This site is like one flew over a cockoo's nest some days.....
Yey I get to use this.0 -
Staying well out of whatever else is going on here, the problem with getting your family's contributions to your upkeep taken into account is that you never actually had them assessed in the first place. It's always best to apply for the means tested support even if your earnings are well above the upper limit as it does help in a wide variety of unforeseeable situations that could arise in the future.
That said, it's probably too late for that to be taken into account now by the receiver. Your university WILL be able to help you financially. Make an appointment and speak to someone asap. I'm sure they can sort you out with money to ensure you won't have to drop out. No other universities would have half as much bursary support available so you're probably quite lucky that's where you are even if it doesn't feel like it with the job situation.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

So, after the lovely recent discussions around here and my staying well away from them so as not to stoke the fire, I believe an update is on the cards. However, I do not want to divulge too much, since I believe people in the know can very likely already put two and two together and find out who I am in real life. Also, I am not sure whether any OR's or other people frequent the board, and if they do, it may not be a great idea to elaborate on their ineptitude online, especially if they have figured out who I am. Maybe I am paranoid at this point.
So, here we are in bullets:
- Discussed everything with the finance officer, and after much hacking around have applied and most likely will receive some hardship funds.
- not sure if mentioned in OP, but will be working over summer
- will apply to additional access to learning funds once the new academic year starts in october. got told that "working in everything but summer should be avoided and the generosity of the hardship funds will reflect this", so I am much less worried/apprehensive as I was before.
As for my parents, they taking it very badly, blaming each other and all they do is argue and yell at each other currently. this is rather depressing and I really hope nothing worse happens from it.
As for some people, especially the disabled-caring saint ONW who devoted her life to saving and helping other people in a manner quite similar, yet far beyond, Mother Theresa's lifetime achievements, all I can say is that a) it is the suddenness and steepness of fall that really grates and b) it is the emotional toll of this situation that is absolutely shattering me at this point, and I do not mean my own individual woes here. I love my parents, I want them to be happy, not sad.
I do hope I answered a few questions with this.0 -

And with that you lose any sympathy you had garnered.0 -

in any case, I felt obliged to update everyone, so those are my thoughts at this point, sympathy or not.
Then much like your irresponsible parents, you need to grow up.0 -
Hi bananamania - glad to see the situation will get sorted. Get back to focusing on your studies, get a good degree, try not to worry about your parents too much (they are a big boy and girl and much as it pains you to see what's happening to them, they will get it sorted one way or another - there are lots of people who go bankrupt on this site and still survive), and enjoy your life as much as you can.
Best of luck with the rest of your year - make it count! Please call me 'Pickle'
