Vodafone contract cancellation clarification (signed in store)

I wondered if people might clarify a contract cancel issue with Vodafone.
My girlfriend signed a 24 month contract with Vodafone in a high street Vodafone branch after going in to see what was on the market. I said she should have shopped around first, but was easily convinced and signed up.
Anyway, she now wants to end the contract to shop around first.
The salesman (who was the store manager) said it could be returned within 7 days. She did, to cancel the contract but they said they couldn't do that, it was signed and sealed and that was that. They said they could only replace the handset for something else and that was what they meant by returning it. In the end they reduced the contract from £20 per month to £15 - which in itself is a result I suppose.
But, reading these forums first, and looking at the Vodafone returns policy _LINK_ it seems you can take it back to a store within 7 days. I appreciate the distance selling laws don't apply to stuff signed in store.
We are still in that seven day period.
Can she cancel the contract completely? The store says she can't, the Vodafone policy suggests she can - unless i'm misunderstanding something.

Your "_LINK_" is not a link actually.
If it really was a Vodafone store, I think they are lying:Vodafone Online store, Telesales and Retail Store
You have the option of asking for an exchange for a new product or to cancel your agreement and have a refund within 7 working days.0 -
I took back a phone last December under the 7 day return policy. you must emphasize your rights because vodafone changed the returns policy last year so yes u can return within 7 days they are just being greedy .0

Thanks for your input.
Maybe you need to quote actual policy to them to get anywhere. She did ask to return it and that it was within seven days.
I guess if she comes in literally waving a print out of the policy at them, they should cancel the contract if she does that within seven working days.
We have been vodafone customers for 20 years combined.0 -
Was the handset used? If so it's now secondhand and cannot be resold as new.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Sorry have to disagree with you Macman it don't matter whether he used it or not he can still exercise his right to return the handset. U remember a few years back when people used to move from one network to the other using a different phone and using up all the minutes and still returning the handset at no charge hence probably the reason we lost these return policies.0

Hi Redcurrant,
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with returning your girlfriends contract. Grumbler and Vixmony are correct with their response that it can be cancelled within the first seven days.
If you are having some problems with this then please email us here with WRT135 in the subject and we will help get this sorted out for you.
Best wishes,
Heidi

To clarify -the right to return to a shop (as opposed to over the internet where DSR applies) within 7 days is a Vodafone concession/policy decision, not "your right under the law", if you see what I mean.
Try it at CPW shops, or some other networks and you will probably be refused as they are within their rights so to do.0 -
Can i post my issue in here because it's my problem with vodafone Italy, not UK?
But i think it's still vodafone so you guys can help me! please!
2 weeks ago, i travelled to venice 2 days and bought a sim card at centre of venice city.
Poor me, i can't remember exactly the add!
That time, the staff told me that i can sign a monthly contract with 25e/month and cancel it after i come back UK
I said to her that i must travel to Paris 3 4 days after that so i will cancel the sim card after 6 day - 29/03/2011
She said "That fine" and gave me a form of canceling to sign in and put the date when i want to cancel it! (that form is on italian language so i can make sure >_<)
To this day, after 2 weeks, my sim card ... still working! I'm so supprise and fone to customer service number in italy, i'm so angry because they can't speak English! Oh my God! They only speak Italian and when i speak slowly, they said: "i don't know" and put the fone off ????
I tried tried tried, and many more time they put the fone off with me!
Vodafone Italy can't speak English? but why when i signed the contract, they can?
So, i only want to know that: Was my contract be canceled or still available so i must pay for some months left that i don't use and don't want to use?
How can i know exactly when i can't contact to their customer service?
Sorry because i can't speak italian
but at least they should speak English because E is worldwide?! right?! 0 -
I am surprised that you are surprised. Do Vodafone UK speak Italian or any other languages?...I'm so supprise and fone to customer service number in italy, i'm so angry because they can't speak English! ..
Vodafone Italy can't speak English?
Well, you were lucky. Some staff in Vodafone UK speak Italian too.but why when i signed the contract, they can?
Wrong. Say this in France if you really want to get into trouble.but at least they should speak English because E is worldwide?! right?!
Do they not have PAYG in Italy?0 -
