Ends 28'/02/05. £50 cashback for new subscribers to BT boradband

Hi

New subscribers to BT broadband can claim £50 cashback when they subscribe via Metro magazine (a free newspaper for commuters in the London area). You don't have to live in London. Here's the link:

http://www.metro.co.uk/metro/standard/article.html?in_article_id=23268&in_page_id=1

They quote ' Exclusive offer: This exclusive offer applies to all three packages and entitles all metro readers of up to £50 cashback when ordering the service before February 28. £40 when ordering BT Broadband Basic'

Cheers
Alison

Who would want to join BT?

I am in the throws of leaving them.

I sugest you do some research before signing up to a years contract.

Thanks for that Ive just signed up, Ive wanted broadband for ages!

I can only have a BT line so theres not many providers to choose form, this cut the cost for me.

PS The metro is available just about all over the country, I get it in Glagsow

No, if you have a BT line you have hundreds of providers to choose from - it's if you have another line that your choice is restricted.

I know it's a bit late for you now, but as the "dominant telco" BT is consistently very bad value for money. http://www.adslguide.org.uk is the place to look. BT are also masters of misleading advertising - such as doublng the rate of their broadband for free, but omitting to tell you they are also cutting the monthly limit in half.

Sorry. Didn't realise that BT were so bad! Am fairly new to this, just thought it seemed like a good offer. Will have a look around.
Also wasn't aware the Metro was available outside London. Not done very well really!

Hey don't worry - do stick around and you'll find that the best way to save money is to play the system, rather than fall for the marketing. I expect you can play the system in this case by looking at the contract terms and seeing how soon you can cancel the contract - companies love to ensnare people with continuing agreements because people usually forget about them or can't be bothered to change. If you can cancel quite quickly you may make yourself a profit, or at least get a very competitive deal. Or if you want to cancel now, it's possible the distance selling regulations will allow you to - though I'm not sure about this.

I've been with BT for two years now and although their price is a little high I can't really fault them, and I have just read this in their help section (after loginng in)

From 17th February 2005 we will be upgrading all our customers’ connection speeds to fast 2Mb - for no extra charge! Soon you’ll be able to download online content so much faster!

  • Great post - keep em coming.

And don't worry if some people say they have had bad service that is part of saving money - no point getting a special offer from a not so special company - I know someone on BT Broadband and they have had no problems
    Always on the lookout

Does anyone know how I can check my connection speed as I also read this somewhere else and I'm wondering if they've upgraded mine yet. I'm on BT Broadband 512k.

p.s. I work for them so I'm a bit biased but I haven't had any problems since I installed mine 4 months ago (took me approx. 10 mins to install - nice and easy) and would definitly recommend BT over a lot of the other suppliers simply for the excellent customer service and care (+ untold freebies they gave me when I joined - send me a PM if you'd like more info on what you're entitled to)

You can test your speed at http://www.dslreports.com/tools

You can also read more about the BT upgrade at http://www.bt.com/broadband/news/faq.html
  • Thanks for that - just checked and it looks like they started upgrading people on the 17th and are expecting it to take 5 months to upgrade everyone - loads of work for us!!

Hopefully I'm not gonna get myself in trouble here but I've gotta say how happy I am that OFTEL (or OFCOM as they're now called) have finally sat back and let BT join in the competition!! I'd expect the next big thing will be unlimited free calls from your phone for a tiny monthly line rental like you get in America.
