Geez you guys really know how to not be helpful.

We *are* being helpful in telling you that if you can't afford to travel, don't borrow to do so.

Just because you don't like the advice, it doesn't mean it isn't offered in good faith.

What I didn't like was the presumption I don't know the value of money and how to save it. Its for a contingency if things don't turn out as hoped. A small bit of debt shouldn't be an issue for anyone with half a brain especially as I am gaining a skill to further my prospects.

There are many Spanish nationals now living in the UK, so why not pay for one to one tuition? Or how about going to Spain - the air fare is a lot cheaper than Peru!

Credit cards would be your best option for an emergency plan. Make cash withdrawals on them whilst you are there and then repay once back in the UK. Yes it will cost in interest but if you are only taking them as a backup hopefully it something you won't have to use and therefore have to pay.

Aside from that see if your bank will give you an overdraft before you go - you might well not get an interest free one but again from what you have posted any interest will only be incurred if the spending is essential.

Cost of living in peru is a 1/4 or less that of spain. In the UK and spain tuition is 20+ an hour, in peru $4-5. Airfare was only 675. For 6 months way way cheaper in peru plus I want to learn South American Spanish.

Don't want to be in a tourist resort in Spain tbh (wouldn't like the people who go there) plus too hot for me over there in the summer. Winter and altitude in Peru is much better.

Where in Peru are you going to as my son has a girlfriend in Peru and has lived and worked there over the years. It might be an idea to do a TEFAL type of course as when my son was in Lima he was teaching English to Peruvian business men so earning whilst learning.

PM me if you need any more info and I will speak to my son.
