Excellent result for 30 minutes work :T
I've been the complete opposite today, am resolutely ensconced on the sofa and ignoring everything around me :rotfl:a penny picker upper. MFW approx 78% to go | FIRE 3 years worth (30% savings rate: now aiming for 40%!) | Normality is a paved road; it's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it | Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible | The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library0 -
Wow. I'm dead impressed, MCI - you get a *lot* done - and the background purchases you need to make for the kitchen are astonishing, they just seem to go on and on, but you really have them in hand. This kitchen is clearly going to be special2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Been looking back at my diary and noticed my goals which I haven't updated for ages...(and to be honest had forgotten about completely)
Looking after the £s:
Budgets - more or less sorted now; will be properly after the kitchen is fully paid for.
Increase Income - rent is coming in nicely, £co on relevant purchases, bit slow on doing the surveys, another toy fair booked in for September, STILL haven't started e-bay yet...
Day to Day - meal planning on-going - grocery spends are coming in at about £180-£200 per month - consistently under budget
Start OPing - £1000 OPed so far this year (soon to be £1500 on 05 Sept!)
Making our house a home
Compile a list - not done
Swap Gas/Elec Meters - STILL NOT DONE - waiting for kitchen to be completed
Continue to sort each room out - sort of being done - except that everything is everywhere at the moment because of the kitchen being out of action - paperwork continues to decrease and a few more things have been decluttered.
Make the house a home - kitchen is our first major step towards this. Want to at least get curtains sorted for the lounge and study finished before the dark nights set in.
Looking after ourselves
Healthy Meals/Lunches - no going too badly - still mainly veggie at lunch; DH remains to be a problem with getting a variety into his lunch. Meals are being fairly healthy.
Treats - less meals out, but having meals out that are nicer. Need to book us a cheap weekend away once everything calms down after the kitchen is finished - DH deserves some time away.
Time for relaxation - yoga classes are continuing and I am trying to walk more. Taking time to just sit (and let the cat on my lap!). My holiday to Greece!
Doing more things together - still need to do the comedy club night for DHs birthday present and book weekend away (as stated above lol) - Our holiday taken during Whit Week.
Looking after others
Mum's - there is now a plan in the offing starting week after next!
Charity - 2 bids done - more to be done (slowed down a bit - need to ramp it back up again)
I don't think we've done too badly - but desperately need to do some things for ourselves.

KC...this kitchen is going to be special - it is a dream come true for me to have a reasonable sized kitchen with a range cooker and enough cupboard space to house the vast majority of my kitchen/baking/catering stuff - (though there will still be some packed up that isn't used very often).
You can't believe how excited I am about this and how pleased I am that it it is now coming together...

there was a bit of panic last night when it came to light that the kitchen designer had measured one part of the kitchen wrong and we were left with a 3 inch gap when all the cupboards had been put in one area! DH rang me and I rang the 'green wood' people to see if I could add another plinth to the order coming out by p&rcel f0rce.
After a conversation that went a bit like this...well the computer works is out and I can't believe that you would be short of plinth!! I said, well it would have helped if it had been measured right in the first place! They agreed to send one out. the operator said; well it will have to be a gesture of goodwill as we can't take money on this line - I would have paid - but if they are going to give it to me for free I am not going to complain - saved us £30.
The problem is that the plinth will have to be used as an infill - not as a plinth as such and that's why we needed more (I didn't realise this when I rang them as I was still at work).
We collected the tiles from the store 15 miles away - no problem.
DH insisted that we went to the pub for a quick meal as he said I looked in no state to be cooking. So we had a 2 meals for £8.99 - he had pie, I had fish & chips and to be fair it just hit the spot. I really wasn't feeling very well last night (and don't really feel much better today; but at least I have no people to wrangle with today (at least so far).
The sun is shining and I wish I was at home. As soon as I get home today I have to do the charity wages and a letter and then I will have a rest - I think I need it - just catching up with me I think.
We will try again today to have the turkey steaks.

ETA - Just opened a regular saver (joint) which DH says I can use to get more interest on my EF - he's not bothered what I do; but I did ask is permission first.Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

Ouch, take it easy, MCI - there's only so much any of us can fit into the day, and when your home is temporarily so uncomfortable, its harder than ever.
xxx2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Feeling much better today - thanks KC.
The pieces of 'green wood' are scheduled to come tomorrow - had a text.
When I got home I realise exactly what had happened. The kitchen designer had measured 3 inches short by the side of the tall larder cupboard I am having (which looks lovely!) so the plinth was needed to be an infill - not a plinth as such. The measurements were also wrong on the other side of the kitchen - 55mm out! My kitchen fitter is brilliant and he will fix it and it will still look great - I don't care as long it looks ok.
Today, it was discovered that the sink I bought had a dent in it - so DH has gone and changed that at lunch time. Everything else is ok today. Kitchen fitter has been doing the pipework for the sink today (tap has arrived too) - probably won't see too much progress today: its all behind the scenes work.
I managed to cook tea last night and we are having steak tonight.
In charity news...our gardener who is retiring hasn't turned up today after walking off in a huff last night! Can't get hold of him by phone. I hope he's ok, but it seems like he's probably just not answering the phone - he could have stuck it out another week till his retirement date!
Anyway, I have got to ring someone tonight to tell them they have the driver job and we have a replacement for the gardener, so hopefully next week we can make a fresh start! - Never rains but it pours! Our poor Project Supervisor is pulling her hair out - I am glad she is made of strong stuff.
Happy hump day everyone.

The tap is bent! Refund being claimed - another tap ordered...so many problems and delays...
Finally some money news. Got paid today and I moved £190 to the Kitchen Fund (it needs it!). Need to check figures but I think I will have another £230 to add from sweep of joint account (DH says to keep it all rather than give some back as we need it at the moment). Will just put the £190 in for now.
Checked the bank this morning and the rent hasn't landed - looking back it's always been the last Thursday of the month - but originally they told us it would be the 28th I think. So will wait and see - still haven't had any remittances off them. Must get DH to chase that up! Eager to get the money in so we can OP!
DH and I had quite a long conversation last night about money and jobs. He feels in limbo at the moment and is hoping to change section soon (not job - just who he works with). He thinks there is a sense of impending doom over his place, but said that as long as there is a trade workforce his job should be fine. He reckons it will be at least another 2 years before any major decisions are made about the trade work force - so we are going to keep going as we are...Oping when we can (hopefully more next year), saving where we can, and getting the things done to the house that we want and need to do.
On the bright side, if he was to be made redundant, then the pay out would be quite good and would stand us in good stead whilst he figured out what he was doing...plus - that's what we pay all the insurances for!!! So, I am not worried - but it seemed like something he wanted to get off his chest.
We were going to have a takeaway tonight (been fancying one for a week), but DH's mouth is still quite sore from cold sores - so this has been moved to next week. I will be doing a paella type dish tonight with mussels, garlic, rice and HG tomatoes and HG courgettes - should be nice - so satisfying using your own veggies in food!
