Just a thought on the Body Shop........

with all the 50% / 60% , free delivery, practically give-it-away deals on current stock they've had since Xmas................will any of you ever pay full price for an item or pay for delivery there again?

I know I won't ! This must be pulling them through difficult trading times rather succesfully, but it has changed my perception of the value of their products longterm.

Some ins today, my Avon order arrived (online one), took over a week to come and half of it is bashed to bits. I used to be an Avon rep and the packaging was naff, they sent everything in good boxes but with nothing inside to protect it so it all just rolled around in there and sometimes the lids were loose and they leaked. Today my clinical eye gel/cream thing is in a right old state. Have rung them and they are sending a replacement and I have to return this lot.

    Anyway in:

In a blink - steel smoke
Gillian Dempsey brow definer in slate
Clinical eye treatment which came with a full size mascara and 7ml luminosity sample all for £10, this was in clearance but don't know why seeing as they still do the eye cream and I think it was £15 in the regular brochure.

    HELLO!

    I am back :p

Well last night we drove back to OH's folks house and picked up OH's old laptop, switched the drives over into mine and it tries to boot so its definetly the hard drive that's gone in it, shame as theres no way of recovering the data in which case. Using OH's old laptop now though and although it works the screen is broken totally on one side (hinge totally snapped) but the laptop is fine as long as I don't move it at all or shut the lid - does mean Im now relegated to sitting at the dining table in the study instead of our comfy bed but hey ho at least I can now get some work done.

I have an IN to report but don't ask me what it is because I don't know, signed up a long time ago to 'Alba scientific research' or something like that and this morning I received a pack of face-wipes to trial :D I think I also get paid to do it, I remeber seeing an email about it last week saying I get a £5 cheque....ALSO been asked to take part in another cosmetic survey with them this morning which is paying £10 so Im quids in (even if it should be doing my diss but shhh) :)

Oh and I also got another £15 today for next to nothing :p - in my first year of uni I found out about a website that 'rewards' you to upload lecture notes etc, well I did this for a bit and realised you could cash out points for paypal payments, and cashed out £10 which was good. I uploded more notes in my second year but never checked my balance, I logged in yesterday and had £15 worth of points so thats going into my account today :p Once Ive finished my diss Im going to get all my notes for my 3rd year typed up and put on there so hopefully Ill make a bit more too :D

  • I am another one resisting the Body Shop offer - there's just nothing there that I'm desperate for right now, and there probably won't be until they get rid of something and I think, "Oh I must try that!"

One UU in this morning's bath - Lush Magic Mushroom Bath Ballistic. WBA as it smelt really nice, kind of a strawberries and cream type scent, and made the bath water go a beautiful shade of red. But it's a Valentine's special so I've got to wait til next year now, although that's fine by me! This means I now have one bath product left to use up - my Cath Kidston Rose Bubble Bath - and I'm going to see if I can finish that this month as it's only a tiny bottle.

Also got my latest lot of Advantage Card discount vouchers yesterday - double points (can use twice), two lots of spend £25 get 250 points, double points on sun protection and aftersun, 50p off ibuprofen tablets, £1 off Simple Spotless Skin range and £5 off selected perfume. They're all valid for a couple of months so I'll probably use most of them, as naughty as that is!

Oh, yes and almost forgot while I was in Mr B noticed Veet have a promotion on their new moisturising lotion with hair removal which they are offering your money back if it doesn't work :j it says look on their website but can't find any mention of it, has anyone else tried this?:)

I got this as a trial with a magazine. I think it works better if you use it after shaving your legs as I think the idea is that it slows down the hair growth and makes the hair finer rather than reducing it completely, but even on areas like my forearms where I don't remove the hair I have noticed a bit of a difference. That said I've only been using it for a couple of weeks and the bottle says that most people notice a difference after four weeks, so hopefully in a while it might have had a more noticeable effect. It doesn't smell of much but equally that means no horrible chemical smell that you sometimes get with hair removal products, and I did think it was very moisturising.
Just noticed on grabbit that there is a code for £5 off the big bundle of s&g products at Mr B....

Although you didn’t hear it from me!

What is this code of which you speak? Just for information like... ;)

:A I was good and not tempted by the BS 60% sale, still have 2 Groupon BS vouchers to use soon, almost feel like I am being swamped by BS goodies just now

I used my foam party voucher today, as it's on special offer at Mr B, it took £2 off ther rest of my shopping! :rotfl::T:j Bought some Sanctuary in order to get the free box for spending over £10 and also got 300 points too :j so actually didn't cost me all that much! :D
The box will go into the gift pile, but I have more gifts that friends :( so my BFs mum and his gran do quite well out of my glitches! ;)
Alos got the Boots mailing, there's a couple of interesting coupons. ;)
Also thought about S&G as it's 1/3 off, may spend points on it but not decided yet.
I've been looking at Tesco DTD thread, but not had time to go, I'm off tomorrow so think I will venture in tomorrow with a list :rotfl: Off to check the grabbit board!

Might I ask what Sanctuary product you bought? :o

I realised that I often use the 'gift pile' as an excuse for my excess buying....I have way more stuff than I could ever gift away now, and realised that I wasn't actually being very MSE and was giving people way more than I otherwise would have done!
    Alert, MSE update:

UPDATE 23 March 16.55. Clinton Cards has changed its terms and conditions so you can no longer buy a £1 giftcard and get a £5 one free. Instead there is a minimum spend of £5.

Boo hoo! Also, offer doesn't start until the 28th. The offer will probably only be worth it now if you buy a gift card for a shop that you need to buy something from anyway. I may get a BHS voucher as I often get stuff from there but will definitely have to give it more thought now.

I'm thinking of getting a B&Q voucher cos I always buy stuff from there. Need some compost and this will be an excuse to buy some lovely plants for my week off around Easter - hoorah for all those bank holidays!!

I agree with what someone else wrote (sorry can't find it now) that I was uncomfortable thinking about going into Clintons to buy a £1 voucher...I do have some moral standards.:rotfl:
Just noticed on grabbit that there is a code for £5 off the big bundle of s&g products at Mr B....

Although you didn’t hear it from me!

Could that be because no-one is buying it at full price.....

Few people here talking about the Nivea face cream - could you give me a few details please.....not that I will of course buy it until I need it (but I happen to have 2 x £1 off Nivea vouchers....) :T

Am resisting the BS deals :A(quite easily actually since I counted my body butters) but if anyone is looking at them, read the thread on grabbit board for a few potential 'glitches' to get a bit more value from the deal.
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

Aha! I knew it! I knew someone would spot some glitches! (On the BS offer!). I've found 1 so far. I am seriously considering getting 3 of these, the only one I'm meh about is the Vitamin E one. I think they look very good value so when I stop for my lunch break, I will go and read the grabbit thread. Don't forget 15% cashback from quidco too :)

    Got my voucher today - £24.73 :j Not bad on a £59.71 shop :D

Nooooooo, I hadn't seen that! I now I want, as I wanted a light crackle colour to use over darker nailpolishes :rotfl:Hmm, will think about it. It'll be at least a week before I'm within striking distance of a Boots again, so will consider seriously how much I want it :p

    Oooooh -I like/want that!!!!!! :o
    sawan82 wrote: »
I know it was awful of me, but it just looked so nice! That's exactly the reason I want it, a nice lighter shade for the darker polishes :D I did go yesterday, the colour looked really nice in store, but off to the vitality show today hopefully, so will see if I get anything there. But I guess for £3.99 it can't be bad. Unfortunately 17 is on 342, so tempted by other items, but definitely not other nail polishes ;)

Aww that's a shame :( I loved the look on lighter nails, but definitely not on bolder/darker colours. Hence the 17 one appealing to me :p

    3 for 2 too...........can I resist?????????????????

By the way....if anyone is tempted by the new crackle colours (blue/pink/white) from barryM.....theres a 10% discount on the website till Sun 27th March with the code - MUM10

Me neither! I don't think I've spent more than £6 on a £12.50 body butter since a couple of years (mind, since I now have 3 unopened and 1 only just opened body butters in my stash, I won't need any more for a while!).

    Hi everyone
Thanks for all your birthday wishes:) - it really helped to lift my spirits yesterday and I had a lovely day.

Bev- would something like that be of interest to you? Or how about Avon lady - just things to build up your confidence? My mum was yee olde Avon lady and did tupperware parties too. She was a single parent working part-time aswell as these things.

Have you thought about doing a vocational course - not sure if you saw my earlier post about my 40 something bestie going back through college and now has a great career (and 2 great kids raised.)

My careers advice tuppence to those on here looking for work - the best thing you can do is to get your foot in the door of a good company - dont worry about what the actual job is, and do temping there if you need to.
It's getting in there to see what the other (internal) vacanices are, networking. There is some staggering statistic I can't quote about the tiny amount of jobs that actually make it to being advertised!! I've got all sorts of qualification but the one thing that always keeps me in work (well I'm hoping it still will) is some poxy flipping typing course I once did for free (when on the dole!) which means I can do 50wpm. Doesn't matter what the job is for, this gets me past the agency bimbos! (hope there aren't any on here to be offended!)

Well, park all your worries for today and enjoy your birthday! And don't forget to tell us of any INS!

Thanks for the info - a few years ago I was an Orflame lady (a bit like Avon) which at the time was quite a big thing in my area -I did a few parties and sold a few things but it fizzled out and my other job took priority. The products were quite good though!

I have looked at my local college website to see if they do typing courses but couldn't see any- will have to give them a ring and find out.

I phoned up to get another appointment to see an advisor and left a message so hopefully I can get the ball rolling again and be a bit more persistant this time! I am sure I'm not completely unemployable!! However, not sure if I need a careers advisor or a life coach!

On the subject of degrees - mine is pretty much worthless (Creative English Studies with History) can't do a thing with it unless I went for an MA (which I most definitely can't afford right now :(

I thought my degree (Psychology) was worthless too especially as it was so long ago, but the advice I got was that it does show commitment and the academic level achieved.

No, I bought the OPI Black Shatter for my daughter and tried this but don't really like the effect on my nails.

I have been looking into these nail products and if the black is no good, they are bringing out some more colours

Don't know about the website -tempted to pre -order but they have no contact phone number listed on the website -anyone heard of them?

By the way - my debenhams order arrived today: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_157005942599_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7Etxtloccitane and what the hell - I am keeping both the sets (although it won't just be me using it but the whole family). My gift drawer is pretty full - off to update my stash list.

Ooh I am glad I read the small print on things - I was going to donate an item of clothing to Oxfam (which I do anyway) via M&S to get an M&S £5 voucher - but you have to spend over £35 on clothes or toiletries. I'm trying to limit the clothes spend as well as the toiletries spend so won't be doing this.
You can get a M&S voucher at any time if you take an M&S item into Oxfam (I have loads of M&S stuff that CAME from Oxfam, no problem!) so the next time I am tempted to spend £35 in Marksies, I may well do that.
