Think I've been sold a dud - Hyundai i10

Advice needed on next step to take please
I have just bought from a main dealer a 59 plate Hyundai i10, with 9k miles on the clock, one owner.
From the start, when Ive had headlights on, I have had oncoming drivers flash me. Plus I have various whirring noises coming from the dashboard, plus the radio cuts out every now and then. After looking at various review sites I find out these are ongoing faults with the i10, which involve the headlight adjusters.
When I bought the car I asked for copies of the 'multipoint safety check' and the HPI check that is standard with the sale.
However the salesman refused to give them to me saying they kept them. Plus they gave the car a full service before I picked it up, again no paperwork.
My question is - can I insist on getting copies of all paperwork ? And can I find out if this car has ever had replacement items for the ongoing faults ?
I know the car has a 5 year warranty but I'd like to know full facts before contacting them.
Thanks in advance

We bought our son an 08 plate i10, it had the same fault. In fact it was fixed last year and it's reoccurred again since and my brothers 09 i10 had the same fault so it it seems very common. A buzzing sound down by your right knee?, I was told it was a faulty beam adjustment switch?
If it was a Hyundai main dealer they should supply the paperwork as to what was carried out on the service as Hyundai like to make sure genuine parts were used. I think the first service is just an oil and filters change. The 2nd year service was a bit of an eye opener at between £270-£320 (I shopped around) which involved spark plugs and brake fluid change.
Just make sure the service book has been stamped as that may affect warranty repairs acceptance.
TBH the HPI seems to be just a means of extracting more money by garages generally IMO, my own car was a Jag main dealer demonstrator but I had to pay for a HPI check. I was shown a subset of the check but wasn't given the option of not paying.0 -
The headlight motor is a known fault, it requires a new switch, for now put the headlight leveling switch at position 1. The radio can have new software uploaded at Hyundai, also tell them that it has really poor reception
however press for a replacement.
At the dealer ask them if the parts have been replaced they should be able to tell you. As for the HPI they paid for it they dont have to give you it, if you are concerned do your own.
Your car has a 5 year warranty, use it and keep using it until you are satisfied !0 -
You need a new switch, just book it in for Hyundai dealer to repair they will have seen lots of these.
On the radio cutting out issue, press the TA button so TA is off and see if it stops cutting out. If it does stop (probably) will its a (common) Hyundai firmware bug an you can tell them about that too.
It's not a dud, just some minor teething issues, be glad you have a car with a 5 year warranty!0 -

You've had some good advice so far and I would like to mirror the sentiments on the warranty.
I am a little shocked, but not surprised, at the dealer's attitude vis-a-vis the paperwork. As has been pointed out, the HPI belongs to the dealer, but if they have nothing to hide, they should show it to you. As far as the PDI report is concerned, that's another thing that should be open and transparent. The dealer will use the excuse that the general public won't understand the processes and procedures and will worry at some otherwise mundane items on the list. It has always been a long held belief of mine, the average consumer is far more intelligent than retailers give them credit and this only serves to insult their intelligence further.
If the dealer has serviced the vehicle, they must have the confidence and integrity to enter it into the service book and in my opinion, at least show you the internal invoice for it being done. The more cynical side of me is like you, I would really wonder if these things have actaully been carried out.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Thanks for advice, I will contact my local dealer and get the car booked in to get these two issues looked at
I was not happy with the salesman's attitude ( once he had my money ) and am still waiting for instruction manuals from them. Guess thats just the way salesmen are !0 -

as someone who often has the traffic news on when travelling for work, having to switch it off would be a nightmare... i'd be demanding the issue be fixed properly... good job the car has the warranty0 -

depends if the radio is covered by the same warranty
some makers only offer 1 year on the radio0 -

I'm not convinced that having a 5 year warranty on a car that has a number of recurring faults is better than having a 3 year warranty on a car that doesn't go wrong (eg my experience with Mazdas).
Probably a discussion for a separate thread actually.0
