i don't think any of you have understood my point. I have plenty of money (in that bank actually) - it was simply that my usually stable direct debits fluctuated for various reasons. Therefore, that particular account went overdrawn by 4.00 and then again by 37p for less than 24 hours. I was charged a fee for the 37p offence - I wasn't happy. They are entitled to charge this fee. I am not arguing about that. I just said I wasn't happy. That is not the issue.

The issue is that in order to stop these problems from occurring again (being sensible) I decided to increase the buffer zone by 100 pounds of the realm. The issue is that I needed a 15 minute interview to accomplish this - which i think is OTT. considering they have lent me hundreds of thousands in the past and I have never missed a payment ever - and in fact OVERPAY each month.

Therefore, i didn't like their attitude and told them not to bother - and put my own money in there as a buffer zone - having to move it from other savings accounts.

Yes, it is there choice as to how they conduct their business - but all I am saying is, for a man of my means (of which they can see because a lot of it is in their bank) earning my salary (which is decent), a request for 100 quid should be granted instantly. Its not as if I want thousands of pounds worth of unsecured debt. I merely want a buffer to stop fees occurring when I accidentally go a few pence overdrawn.

the point is, they want you to go overdrawn, so they can charge more fees.

Tough. Freemarket. Don't like the service, change banks and stop your whinging.

    End of discussion.

You're no better sometimes than the people you attack.

having reread my original post, it is absolutely clear that my beef was with the concept of an interview for £100 credit - NOT - the fees for going overdrawn.

clearly people need to read posts a bit closer before commenting.

Have you still not grasped that they do that for a purpose, to sell the financially illiterate products they don't need.

You are the very same tub thumping type that fumed in the past when reading headlines about Banks not taking steps to ensure people are not simultaneously taking on various debts.

This is classic Dailymail readerism in action.

All for something until it bites you one day, classic:rotfl:

THIS is why I've been warning you that mortgage regualtion has gotton completely out of hand and why I keep pointing out to the know it alls like Thruglemire that one day they too may find themselves or thier family declined for a mortgage.

I've given examples such as older clients now virtualy frozen out of the mortgage market due to regulation - but so far most of you have not grasped how unfair this is on hitherto capable borrowers, 99% of who do not get repossessed.

PS - I'm not a VI. I make more money in this market. I just hate the inequality of the blind FSA regulation that causes millions to have to rent.
  • If this is a one off cashflow issue and you have otherwise been a good customer then I'd raise a complaint stating that you think a penalty of 625% or whatever is excessive.
If you do I suspect they will credit it out of goodwill.

because clearly i prefer my own money to be in my savings accounts and/or ISA earning far more interest than it gets in the current account. therefore, i would rather use their money for this pupose (as the first 300 is free) than my own.

But for the sake of having a token £50, £100 or even £250 float in your current account to prevent something like this happening- surely youre not that hard up that you need to squeeze every ounce of interest out of every penny?

Im what you've referred to on numerous occasions as a public sector moron- a waste of space, jobsworth that couldnt cut it in the private sector...

But you know what mate? I dont make school boy banking errors like that. :money:

probably because you don't have much money to look after.
  • i give up on this thread. i am extremely disappointed by bendix. he has let me down most of all. i used to value his opinion. now i realise it is worthless.

i cannot understand how anyone on here (bar public sector) can think a 15 minute interview for 100 quid overdraft is not OTT and excessive. It should take no more than 3 seconds for existing customers. yes or no. that is it.

i await bendix to give me the list of banks that don't do this, so i can use my free choice to join one of those instead.

they have done so. but THAT WAS NOT MY F**KING POINT. do people not understand this???????????????? I was not complaining about the fee (unhappy as I was at incurring it).

It was the ridiculous interview to get 100 credit buffer zone established.
