Why are you going over your overdraft limit if you have 'significant amount in savings'?

I think your making all this up.

Exactly the same happened to me 4 - 5 years ago.

I enquired about a £100 overdraft (to provide myself with a buffer zone) over the counter but was told that I would need to make an appointment.

As it was to my benefit I made an appointment and was in and out within 5 minutes. They asked me if I needed financial advice, I said no thanks only a £100 overdraft and was told it would be put in place.

That was it. I never even thought about it being a hassle and just accepted that it was a standard procedure.

very poor post by the OP. they don't owe it to you to give you an extra 100 quid buffer zone. i don't see why you don't just leave an extra 100 quid in there as you say you can afford it - it's neither here nor there. personally i don't see there is much issue with getting overdrafts. i have 2 accounts with the same bank and a facility of 3400 overdraft on each account - not that i'm mad enough to use them.

rather stupid to go 37p over when that incurs a 25 quid fee - not least if you had available funds elsewhere. sounds like the sort of thing someone not in control of their finances might do.

Horsey sounds like some lowlife vile lefty scum, complaining about private sector practices.
  • because clearly i prefer my own money to be in my savings accounts and/or ISA earning far more interest than it gets in the current account. therefore, i would rather use their money for this pupose (as the first 300 is free) than my own.

yes, i am clearly in massive debt and need (((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))) please tell me it wasn't my fault etc etc etc.

clearly it was my fault - i have never said it wasn't. i just said i wasn't happy at being charged so much for such a small amount over. as it happens the bank seems to agree as they have just cancelled the charges.

anyone who is "happy" at paying a fee that is 80x the amount overdrawn must be a fool. even if they have agreed to it.

the point i was making is the difficulty to get credit.
  • having reread my original post, it is absolutely clear that my beef was with the concept of an interview for £100 credit - NOT - the fees for going overdrawn.

clearly people need to read posts a bit closer before commenting.
  • btw - can all the people who told me I should move bank if i didn't like the unauthorised bank fee charges please tell me the bank I should be at that does not charge these fees.

I am sure there are lots around, but being thick I agreed to join a bank that did charge it. I await the people in the know to tell me which bank i can choose to join that would not charge me these fees.

    Cheers all.
