Having said that certain payments will be treated differently depending on what has taken you overdrawn.
1. Direct debit - if this is the case there would be a £25 returns fee as well as the inconvenience of having to arrange alternative payment method if they declined it.
2. Cash Withdrawal - If taking you overdrawn by £10 or less the bank have an obligation to allow this withdrawal. Even if you only have 1p in the account the cash machine have only £10 or higher notes therefore will allow you to make the withdrawal to allow you access to your penny.
3. A debit card transaction I'd have a bit more sympathy with the argument that you should be able to assume that would be declined if you didn't have the funds and 99% of the time that is the case. However I will agree that very occasionally these will still get through. Having said that, I'm sure if peoples card were being declined in shops for only a few pence there'd be 20 threads on here moaning about banks declining card so they can't win really.0 -
The point is - for the hundreth time - the overcharge fee is irrelevant. I have been a customer with that bank for many years - I have a lot of savings in that bank - i pay a lot into that bank every month. I went £4.00 and 37p over for no more than 24 hours. In that situation, I should either be pre-approved for a further loan or pre- not approved, so that when I say "can I have an extra 100 buffer zone" - or even a tenner would have been sufficient - they just say "yes you can" or "no you can't". either would be fine. However, speaking to one person for the best part of 7 or 8 minutes, only to be moved to someone else to have the same conversation again is pointless, a waste of time and a waste of money. where are they getting the money to pay these people? probably from fees!
this is the sort of imbecillic practice i would expect from the public sector who like to create extra work and inefficiencies - not a private sector company. no wonder their shares fell 5% yesterday!!!!!!!!0 -

no i wouldn't agree. if you had the full facts, you would not either. but then, why let facts get in the way.
its irrelevent to this thread as i am my own employer - and doing this is costing me nothing. in fact, it helps me unwind, so is probably worthwhile.
for such a simple thread, making such a simple point - it is amazing how many people have (a) failed to grasp the concept - not being able to get past the overcharge fee being incurred in the first place and (b) that most people do not think that the bank's working practice is idiotic.
if you went to a restaurant, were told the specials, and then were asked for your order, only at the end for the waiter to say "and now, i will pass you to another waiter for him to take your order again" you would think that was stupid. this is the same.
anyone who cannot see that is a lefty, and imbecile, or both.0 -

This is hilarious. But actually, it is quite helpful as they don't charge fees. they simply charge 95p a week. so, lets say 4 quid a month. which is roughly 48 quid a year. is it worth it? if I am charged one fee or so a year, i am actually better off where I am.
