My friends in Clydebank had a VM telly package.....after it was cancelled they discovered the box still worked for most Freeview channels. They used it on and off for a year with no problems (they were not asked to return the box). Noiw they've got a telly with built-in Freeview so don't know if it would still work.0

Sometimes.
Often, if you continue with other services they don't seem to bother.
Probably hoping you'll re-sign for telly services.0 -
if that connection is still live and anyone has that cable that went into the back of the box if you connect that cable into the back of the tv where the aerial goes (got to buy the adaptor) and re scan the tv you should pick up itv 2 and that but you pick up only a extra few channels but the quality of them channels are excellent.0

It depends on what type of box,Analogue they don't bother with but Digital they do.Box collections are handled by an outside agency now who are part of a debt collectors. When I started with NTL,it was done in house.
If the equipment isn't returned when you leave, they may bill you up to £250 depending on the type of the box.
(we used to do box collects when the work was slack)Its_all_Dinx wrote: »if that connection is still live and anyone has that cable that went into the back of the box if you connect that cable into the back of the tv where the aerial goes (got to buy the adaptor) and re scan the tv you should pick up itv 2 and that but you pick up only a extra few channels but the quality of them channels are excellent.
What you are suggesting is illigal & classed as 'Theft of Service'.Reason it is illigal before anyone say's it isn't is because as far as VM are aware you have an illigal STB in the house, not only that but you are connecting, for want of a better phrase,an 'illigal device' in the form of the TV/VCR directly to the VM network without a STB.
This they can trace back from the street cabinet as it affects the network due to the level of interference that is created by the insecure connection. This can also affect other users connected to the same tap bank in the street cabinet as well as your own broadband connection. If you do not subscribe to VM at all but do this, they'll more than likely disconnect your cable in the street cabinet.0 -

No.VM don't sell the boxes & once they are disconnected, they become doorstops as the whole thing (or it was when I was there) is locked up.
Thank you for your quick answer.
Just looking for ways to have a basic tv with free-view but that's not essential, before going down the route having an aerial installed.
The house has always been cable and then the council passed it over to virgin media 12 months ago so it's either continue with them at £12.50 a month or install an aerial.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

even if the single is sending out channels one to five and maybe itv2? by the way I have a cable box. before VM it was NTL and they fitted the extra connections to the other tv in the kitchen in my old house they even gave me that thingy to make it a safe connection and protect my tv.0 -

you no what your clearly not happen with paying the £12.50 Ring them up and tell them you are planning to leave as you have to pay so much just to watch FREE tv and that at one off payment to sky you have a small dish and a box and loadss of free channels and they will give you an hd box. Is there anything they can do. DO NOT agree to the first thing they say. if you are still not happy take the name of the person and then say you want to talk to the manager. then that person should be able to offer you even more I use to pay £5 a month for VM tv package that included sky 1 sky 2.0
