He has parkinsons! He had a bad car crash when i was 11, and we almost lost him. He had to retire early, and mum had to retire to look after him. Then some years later his mobility was declining, and mum presumed it was his hip going (he had it all rebuilt from the accident) but they diagnosed parkinsons probably due to the amount of time he was unconscious with the accident. For some reason dad is in a really bad patch, he gets stuck, he falls over ect. It took him over 20 minutes to get to the toilet and back this evening.
I may look into things and see what help there is. Thanks guys!0 -

What is normal?"Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Sorry - another 'nearly senile moment' - 2 in one day - things are getting bad  My mind doesn't put my brain into gear sometimesBut the help is still there for Parkinsons - they will have carers groups, in fact my brother went to normal carers group as well as the Alz carer group. Just search under Parkinsons help for family or help for carers - there will be loads of help, advice and sympathy from people in the same situation as you and your Mum

That's good, time away to herself is very important and that is what respite gives you - they can arrange for your Dad to go to a day centre for example, one day, two days, every week day if necessary and if available, so that your Mum has some time to herself to get on with things she can't do when she is worrying about getting back for your Dad, for example

yes, i think it would be fab for my father to go and do something for a day. So mum can drop him off, and she can get on with whatever - or just do nothing. If i suggested this they would both shun it. "we don't need that" ect. Its a part of the reason i admire them so much because they're constantly trying and never giving up. I'll look into it and see what i can come up with, even half a day would be something!
I knew i'd get good ideas from herethanks 3dogs.

All you can do is find the information Vix, you can't make them take up the help. How about getting some leaflets or downloading some info, and 'leave them lying around where they might see them by accident'?
