Mother of the bride outfit

  • When my sister got married my mum went to Selfridges to use their personal shopper service and ended up buying a lovely green and brown Max Mara dress with green shoes and a little cream furry shrug. Not cheap but she did wear the dress and shoes for my graduation so it was an investment.

Quite a few other shops have a similar service, I know Debenhams do if you're thinking of something a bit less expensive but still nice...

Mama, that's lovely! You can wear Lime Green if it makes you happy, as long as you are there on the day and wearing a big smile! Although, don't try and make me get a lime green wedding dress, or there will be trouble...:rotfl:

but both the hat and the fascinator are out of stock. Please can some kind person help me find either the hat or fascinator somewhere else. Had a look myself but no joy.
    Thanks.

IrisRose, have you tried ebay? They don't have the 'Wisteria' set at the moment, but they have lots of shoes-bag-fascinator sets on there in different shades? Or a factory outlet that does Jacques Vert?
I got my last set of wedding headgear from Debenhams, and a fascinator from Coast, who do lovely colours.

Fascinating but I was hoping for a bit more Lime :rotfl:
  • Can someone please tell me, is it some sort of British tradition to wear hat/fascinator for a wedding? I keep seeing the pictures of elderly ladies wearing ridiculous feathers and flowers in their hair ;) When my friend was getting married (in Poland) to an Englishman, his mum told her mum that she is rude not wearing any!

Just wondering why you're sounding so angry about it? Ever heard of the expression 'when in Rome'?
Yes we do like females to wear hats or something on heads, sorry if it doesn't meet with your approval, do what YOU want, don't suppose anyone will care much.

Exactly, the wedding was in Poland and the groom's mother told the bride's mother that she should wear a hat or a fascinator in her hair. She said it was rude not to.

I'm not angry about it, I'm rather amused, I think it looks funny - especially on an older person. Why would I be angry? My wedding will be in Poland and my mum will not wear anything such for sure :) And if some British guests want to wear it - well, it's their choice :P

I was merely asking if it's a tradition :) and would it be considered rude not to wear anything on your head.
