Washing machine - repair or replace?

Options
The fast spin on my washing machine has disappeared. It still washes fine and the drum rotates fine, but it just doesn't step up the gear to give the final fast spin to get the water out of the clothes at the end.

Any idea what the problem could be and whether it's worth getting someone in to fix the machine? It's a 15 year old Indesit bottom of the range machine and this is the first problem I've ever had with it. Would parts still be available? If I replaced it, I'd replace it with a basic bottom-of-the-range model, so would have to be a pretty cheap fix to be worthwhile!

Failure to complete the high speed spin will be down to motor brushes needing replacement.
The brushes will only be a few £'s, so a fairly cheap fix if replacing them yourself.

I doubt if it is the motor brushes. Our machine won't spin until the water sensor has checked that all of the water has been pumped out of the drum. Check any filter and the waste water outlet pipe for a blockage first or it could even be the water level sensor.

The OP stated that all other aspects of the wash cycle complete without a problem, so assuming that is correct then the only other cause of failure to go in to high speed spin will be the motor brushes.

Rubbish - my experience is different.

Are you saying that there is a separate set of brushes that are only used for spinning?

I have to agree, my machine was doing the exact same, was all good but wouldn't spin. I posted on this forum and someone advised the filter which I cleaned and five minutes later hey presto all working fine now.

Of course not, but when you take in to account things such as endfloat then the registered blind can see that a worn brush will quite happily make enough electrical contact with the commutator at low speed, but the contact point won't be as definate when the motor has to step it up a gear.

You already showed us how knowledgeable you are on all things electrical / electronic in the >Alternator / Dynamo< thread

On the contrary, that thread shows that you did not read the question, where the OP wanted to build a circuit, so that a bicycle dynamo would to provide a steady 5v DC supply.

Even the non technical OP knew that a bicycle dynamo produces an alternating current output but you just had to make a fool of yourself by arguing that a dynamo produces DC because your dictionary says so!

If I play your silly game of quoting old threads, readers can see how little you actually know here where you state that a wireless adapter is a "radio receiver".

I suppose that a mobile phone is simply a radio receiver to your simplistic mind, when it obviously has to be a transceiver - a transmitter and a receiver.

Keep digging and showing your ignorance.
