Is anybody else having trouble with an RBS current account?
They recently wrote to me to tell me that following an "internal review" they are going to change my current account to a different type as it no longer "suited my needs". Unsurprisingly the new account has worse terms. I have complained but this has been casually dismissed and I have been told their decision is "fair" and I have no further say in the matter. Helpfully they have suggested that if I am not happy I could close the account, one I have held for over 20 years. Their definition of fair is a strange one as the change would benefit RBS in terms of higher interest and charges, but there is not one single benefit for me.
I suspect this might be a result of the fact that I have not bought a loan or mortgage from them in a while, but I also wonder how much this is due to the impending forced sale to Santander:
ARE RBS STRATEGICALLY MANIPULATING THEIR CUSTOMER ACCOUNTS PRIOR TO THE SALE TO SANTANDER?

Loyalty counts for nothing in this day and age. It's all about how profitable a customer you are today, not how much money you made them last year/decade/lifetime.
Tell them to stick their "fairer" account, as complaining will get you nowhere and just waste your time, and find one that suits you with another bank.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
If their action causes you to switch accounts prior to the sale to Santander you ought to consider writing and thanking them for not landing you with a bunch of halfwits.0

That's just the branches they need to dispose of due to competition law. The accounts held at these branches are not being transferred. The OP suggests that accounts are being transferred as well, and that's not the case.0 -
The accounts are being transferred, the reason many mse'rs have transferred their English RBS accounts to Scottish branches

The same goes for RBS branches in EnglandDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -

Oh yes the accounts are being sold to Santander also, sadly. There is a special telephone number on which you can ring RBS to ask for a form to fill in to remain with RBS after the sale - basically it means you are asking RBS to close your English accounts and open new accounts for you at a Scottish branch. Many people, myself included, decided to do this for ourselves well before any sale takes place. My RBS accounts are now safely held at a Scottish branch where Satander cannot get their paws on them!:T0 -
