Just out of interest, I thought I might pass on the following gem.
Never forget how simple some people can be re technology.
I've recently aided my Cousin upgrade his TV and video recorder to digital to enable access when the switchover comes.
His first problems came with being unable to connect up his VHS tape recorder, so that he can watch or copy his tapes via his Hard Drive /DVD recorder. Despite simplistic drawings (too far to travel to his home easily) he failed. It took me two minutes when I went to his house. BUT....
The gem came this morning via email. His remote control for his Hard Drive / DVD recorder, did not have a 'fast rewind' button for DVD's, like his old VHS did. What was the correct way to do it?
When you think some things are so simple they don't need explaining, just double check they have SOME idea.

Yes, i also know some people like that. But they often do understand and learn when given instructions but can then make similar mistakes a few months on.
Here's the case for those poor mis-represented people, lol
Well, dyslexia is known to affect language, but of course has absolutely nothing to do with intellect.
So maybe there is a similar effect for some people when it comes to technology, who knows?
People's minds all work in different ways and on different levels, so it's perhaps not too surprising that some people have difficulty understanding Maps or Technology.
Some people are ultra-creative, others quite the opposite,
It would truly be odd if we were all the same, clones,
can you imagine that?

I've never known a DVD player or HDD recorder that didn't have this function, but you can always go back in big chunks through chapters.0

No disrespect intended for anyone intended in my subject, as I'm sure you appreciate. No doubt my Cousin could mention some basic points from accounting, that would leave me befuddled. He earned a much greater income than I did over his life.
The point made was, what seems painfully obvious to some, and doesn't seem worth mentioning, is a complete blind spot to others.
Like these forums, you wouldn't think to tell someone to learn to read, when you told them to have a look because they are so interesting sometimes, no matter what other talents they have.0 -

Well, mine doesn't spank!
It has a 'skip' forwards or backwards for chapters, or a 'search' forwards and backwards for when playing.
No button to go 'back to start', or 'rewind'. Rewind to where? Chapter one? Chapter two?
Why not just press 'stop' and 'play'?0 -

Did he read the instruction manual?0 -
My problem takes the biscuit. My OH is a engineer/designer in the electronics area. He could easily build an HD Recorder or DVD recorder and the suchlike, but he cannot figure out how to programme them - that is left to me. The last time he set up a recording time on our HD recorder, it didn't even bother coming on, let alone record the wrong station!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

All dvd players have F-F + F-REW.
If you can't find them , read the manual.0 -
There is a disturbing trend with some men who think it clever/endearing not being able to wire a plug or put up a shelf.
No need to worry, James May's man lab will be returning to our screens later this year to address the problem. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
