You won't do.
Click on Start then RIGHT CLICK on My Computer and select properties. Click on the hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. On the next window that opens, click on the + sign next to Network Adapters and what does it say?
Also in that window is there a "Unknown Devices" ?
Just done as you said, there isn't a 'Network adaptor' option on the list.˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ

You say "rebooted" - do you mean "rebuilt" ?
They mean totally different things.......
Rebooting just means powering down then back up again
Rebuilding means reinstalling Windows and all your programs and utilities.
Ah ...... had to reinstall Windows with the disk supplied with the PC, as it had completely crashed.
So am in the process of trying to reinstall everything.
And as such i need to get online to download stuff again ........˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ

Looks like you need to install the ethernet network adaptor driver software as I suspect Windows cannot 'see' the networking capabilities in the PC.
If you go to device manager there are probably some items listed with !exclamation marks, indicating hardware that's present but incapable of working until the correct driver software is installed.
If you reload Windows then sometimes some hardware cannot be detected by Windows installation but requires a 3rd party driver. If your PC came with any other CD's if might be on that otherwise you need to determine what ethernet networking hardware is on your PC and get the driver.
Is it a branded PC like Dell/IBM/HP etc? - if so, you can get the driver from their support download site, using your working laptop and copy the downloaded file(s) to a memory stick and transfer to your PC and then install them.

No its not a branded PC, its from a local company, who build them up themselves,(they are very well regarded round here)
I only got the windows disk with the PC.
From what you say it looks like i'm a bit stuffed!
I'll have to have a word with them then.˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ

If you can advise the model of the motherboard (it might say when you boot up the PC, something like Asus P7H55 or such like) then we may be able link to where to download the right driver which you can do on a working computer and transfer.
