rebooted PC, Netgear router not found??

Have had to completely reboot the PC from scratch as it crashed.
Have an issue now in trying to install the drivers for our Netgear wireless router.
We have the setup disc, but during the installation run, it says it cannot detect the router??

Running Windows XP, other programmes seem to load up no problem.

I have no idea where go from here.

  • Is the wireless link showing on the taskbar if not it looks like you have disabled the wifi adaptor on your pc.

Just go to network setting in control panel and enable it.
  • No need to install drivers, Connect with an ethernet cable or am I missing the fact that you don't have an ethernet cable, and type in 192.168.x.y where I think x is 0 for netgear and y is almost certainly 1 . Obviously you are posting either using the router on another PC or are using your phone?

You do not need drivers for a wireless router at all, not ever. You do need drivers for the wireless network card in your PC if you connect via Wifi or the network adapter drivers if you connect via a network cable.

Its all connected up correctly, its not been touched as it was the PC that was rebooted, and now the PC can't find it.

In this case just click the ethernet link in the taskbar or goto control panel network settings to see if the ethernet adaptor on your pc is enabled.

    You won't do.

Click on Start then RIGHT CLICK on My Computer and select properties. Click on the hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. On the next window that opens, click on the + sign next to Network Adapters and what does it say?

Also in that window is there a "Unknown Devices" ?

You say "rebooted" - do you mean "rebuilt" ?
    They mean totally different things.......
Rebooting just means powering down then back up again
Rebuilding means reinstalling Windows and all your programs and utilities.
