Sun 9.50 Holidays - Haven Church Farm, Sussex

Hi everyone

Just wondering about the extra charges Haven are asking for with the 9.50 sun holidays. We were lucky to get a nice park, expecting to pay for passes and a power/electricity etc but the breakdown is as follows, and makes the holiday £150 for 4 of us.

entertainment pass £40
linen / beds made up £14
main season supplement (?) £22
power charge £20.85
upgrade £16

we understand some are optional, and some not, but they don't say optional and have just sent us a bill with balance due now for holiday end June

This is our first time with the sun so not sure about this, can anyone help? I don't want to ring them yet because they might think I'm tight, it's still good value at 150 but we were expecting half that!

We expected perhaps an extra £20 for power and about half for the passes ?

Thanks a huge lot!

god really? they describe themselves as a five star caravan park too!!! It's just a cheap getaway for us really, but the first family weekend this year so it would feel nice to grab a true bargain!

  • Hi,

We once collected the vouchers then found that we could get a late deal cheaper! The late deals are a bit hit and miss but I really dont think those Sun holidays are all they are cracked up to be.

hmm, beginning to think that! We usually go on loads of holidays (weekends and full weeks) in this country but always try to bag a deal, it would be a shame that it really is going to be 150 when we thought half that!

    Thanks for your replies L

it usually states the price for the extras such as power and entertainment passes on the park details in the sun booklet so that aspect shouldnt be a surprise

I live up the road from the park

I looked again at the page and it says about utilities provided - not about extra costs - these are the two that they appear to be charging me for:

    Pillows and duvet
Free gas, electricity and hot water

what might be main season supplement?

I love the park and the location looks lovely, has you sunnysea used the beaches etc? They do look lovely in the pictures! We didn't want to go too far for a weekend away, we're in Kent

We're also booked with Haven thru the sun hols although a different park.
We've been charged £45 for passes £9 each as there are five of us.
And our power charge is £27.80 for a mon - fri break.
Won't pay for Linen or upgrade.
The prices each park charged were shown in the brochure, and Haven ones are always expensive
Also as you've got to pay in June presume you're going July at some point??
theprices for the 'summer' hol are always a bit more.
But then again compared to what we've paid it's very similar charges ( we're going in april)

We've got a better deal from Park resorts who we're going with in July.
    Passes £32.50 so £6 each
Service charge £24 so £6 per night(which i think is a bit steep as no way will we use that much elec/gas per day)

Have you compared what you're paying against the same holiday booked direct?
Sometimes you can get a better deal booking direct.
For us Haven want £279 and we've paid £120.30 saving £158.70
And park resorts want £293 and we've paid £131.50 saving £161.50
So while i'm not happy with high service charge, i'm making a reasonable saving

the web page will say free gas/elec as that is for people who book direct with them. One of the conditions of booking a sun holiday is that you have to pay for the elec/gas ( it's the parks way of making some of the lost revenue I guess)

I'm sure I went through the sun site to get to that info, I saved it and just looked at the url (web address) and its not TheSun.co.uk/ ... more confusing as we go!

It is a condition of the sun holiday that they charge you for linen, service charge and entertainment passes. You can opt out of linen and entertainment but not the service charge. That why you can sometime get better deals booking directly, esp when booking outside of peak times and school hols.
