I don't think I helped much there. Shout if we can help more.

    Got there in the end.

Doing a mystery shop on tuesday :j
  • I have just done a job for Gap at a mobile phone shop. The instructions say no purchase required. I submitted my report within the hour. I have now recieved an email asking me to upload my receipt as requested ????? I do not have a receipt as no purchase was required.
They state that if I do not upload receipt that my payment will be cancelled. I have emailed them via their site.
    Have I done something wrong.

I've never done one of these, but I think you have to upload the business card from the shop instead of a receipt.

For a job done at the end of February it should hopefully come in their April payrun at the end of the month - although if you're unlucky it could be in May's payrun. I did a job in the third week of December 2009 and didn't receive payment until the first week of April 2010 - so it can stretch out sometimes. But they have always paid up eventually.

My experience is similar, they pay up after about 2 months and generally in the first week of a month. They take a long time to pay (up to 3 months from the job) but they do pay up. You have to factor this wait into the worth of the job. I chase Joan, but beware of them pushing the truth about an actual paydate its pretty much always the week after they say.

How much do you guys think a mile costs in petrol? What is the figure in your head?

I am trying to work out if a job is worth it.

My van costs about £0.16 in diesel so that before you factor in any other costs.

Someone elsewhere set up a wee spreadsheet where they had a list of their local towns, no. of miles, cost per mile, time taken to get there, cost of time and then when negotiating, they had a very firm idea of how much a single trip would cost them and whether they would make any profit.

I've not quite got round to copying this idea but it's a very good idea if you have people on the phone offering a quid for a 60-mile round trip...:D

If you have a Garmin satnav some of them allow you to enter the cost of a litre of petrol and it calculates the cost of the journey for you.

i caculated mine a few weeks ago at 13.9p mile. however that was the average over a few weeks and i had done quite a few long journeys so for shorter trips its prob higher.

i rarely drive for shops as luckily i live in a city and dont mind walking! :)

Almost all of mine is done by public transport -I simply work my way along the train line .

I'll start usually at the furthest point and work back as the day return fare allows unlimited hop offs (No wonder I do so many station jobs) and it usually works out cheaper total than just parking alone in one town let alone petrol etc. One day I'll get truely organized and get a decent dongle so I can submit my reports enroute ;)

  • I think google maps does an approximate petrol costing - nto sure how accurate it is though :D
