The exploding nappies should settle down when she's eating more solids, although they can produce some spectacular nappies when they are teething:eek: Before they were on solids, I did find that you got the odd nappy explosion no matter what type of nappy I used.
  • Good grief what an expensive baby!

For any clothes that are soiled, I pop them in the sink and soak with napisan (found in all supermarkets in the baby aisle, although not all Asda) and soak over night. Pop in washing machine and they are as new.
  • The poo explosions will pass! That's so normal. Luckilly when they're tiny the poo isn't smelly like older baby poo (in comparison!).
Like other people, I would slide the vest off taking it down past her legs. If it was a lot of poo, I would rinse it in cold water. I spray clothes with tesco stain remover (79p), wash with teso brand non-bio, and use a scoop of the generic brand Vanish for whites. I have never lost an outfit to poo!
Blueberries however, they are another story.

Our Little Boy used to do the most horrendous nappies for several weeks - bright green with curly bits that leaked. Oh an Lewis also pooped after every feed... And he was a frequent 1.5hrly feeder!!! (nasty nappies were investigated for tummy bugs, colic, attachment issues, foremilk ect.. - turned out that he was one of the babies that HV advised to wean at 4months as he needed more)

So we were changing at least 12 vests a day EEeeeK! we never got any poop actually on the outfits that he wore - except twice on the INSIDE of pants. Some of the vests never came perfectly clean with standard washing but when they were on for 2 hours max, it didnt matter to the usually prissie me!

I must admit tho, when our daughter was a baby a couple of pairs of tights had to binned due to leaky nappies as they shrunk when boil washed, If people had bought me lots of dress top and matching tight sets, perhaps i may have been inclined to stop wearing the set ....

These days we have a bucket with lid in the laundry room filled with a napisan solution and teatree oil that i pop any soiled clothes in until i get a chance/full load to pop the washer on for, but have found that using homemade food doesnt even stain, not even the carrot puree no matter how much mess Lewis makes
  • My dd has reflux so I get sick covered outfits as well as explosive poos! Like others using pampers, they shoot straight up the back and I have to put her in the bath straightaway. But after a soak and washing at 40 with Fairy, all her vests and suits have come up fine. They are all old suits as well having been used for her 4 year old sister too!
The only disaster we had was when a yellow suit went in with a pair of new jeans and she has a nice khaki one now (I don't put her in it much, only around the house as its not a nice colour!).

I wonder how the OPs sister would cope with the situation we had with the older one, when she was teething, she exploded all over her pushchair in Bluewater! Luckily we had just bought her some pyjamas and went off to a baby change room and had to clean her thoroughly (not easy with babywipes). We had a silver cross pop pushchair which you could remove the cover so it just had a summer mesh and we had to remove that too.
When we got home it all went into the washing machine and came up fine. Do you think the OPs sister would throw away a pushchair if it was pooped on?
:j Is MSE saving me money, or making me spend more on all the bargains?!:j

Oh my gosh! Hahahaha, I am hoping that she will now realise that things don't have to be thrown away! That situation though . Being a new Mum has really started to bring her out of her shell a bit which is great. She used to be so nervous and thought that baby crying in public would make people think she was a bad Mum, bless her. She is learning though and still has more to learn! I hope she wouldn't chuck away a pushchair, I know she wouldn't, hahaha. Why does baby teething make babies poo more explosively?

I don't have children but I do know how detergent works. There's a molecular chain, one end of which is fat loving and attaches itself to fats, the other end is water loving and attaches itself to water. Agitation pulls the grease laden chain away from the clothing and water rinses it away. Therefore anyone who suggests that detergent won't get fat based stuff out is an imbecile - that's exactly what it's designed for. If the baby was !!!!!!!! blocks of lard she might have a point/need a lot of detergent though.

With the added bonus that your sink comes up lovely. Gets rid of tea stains and whatnot, napisan is genuinely fantastic stuff!

If she is short of money, is she selling the outfits?
  • Im guilty of throwing cheap babygrows vests if they been pooped on badly thrown up on.
    But no outfits.......
I use persil and occasionally put vanish if heavily soiled, but lifts stains fine.
