Ah, didn't realise they'd stuck a MAF sensor on the 1999 Primera. Doh!

However my old carbed D reg Bluebird did the same when a vacuum hose came adrift.

Just got a call from the Auto Electrician, the fault detected was Throttle Body and CAT. He has advised me to use a new CAT while the Throttle Body unit can be a used one. Do I have to change the whole Throttle body Motor unit?? Let me know from where can I get a used one??

    Thanks for all your replies...

I assume he means a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) rather than a whole throttle body?

Cat? Is that code not "low catalytic efficiency" which can be the result of something as trivial as a tiny hole in the exhaust system somewhere?

I spoke to the Auto Electrican again today and he confirmed that it is Throttle Body Motor, he tried cleaning the one in the car but with no success and the other issue is with the Catalyser, which also needs replacing.

I have now managed to get a second hand Throttle Body Motor. Do I need to buy a new catalyser or will a second hand one do??
    Please let me know.

2nd hand on will be fine as long as you know its working properly, It it turns out to be faulty dont forget the
garage will charge you again to remove and refit another one. False economy really, They can be picked up quite
cheaply these days, No longer £1000+ for older mainstream cars.

Thanks for the reply, I dont have any problems apart from the car cutting off often, if the catalyser is not replaced will it make any difference. Any way I will be changing the Throttle body Motor.

catalytic converter, new is pretty cheap, yes it can have an affect on power, and fuel consuption.

there are no motors in a throttle body, either the throttle position sensor had failed, idle control valve, mass airflow sensor or the throttle unit itself or air temp sensor.

put a second hand CAT (for short) in it and you maybe replacing it again in 14 days time you dont know how long its been on the donor car, how long its been sat in their yard and how long it took them to remove it from the donor car and put it into stock whether it was left out in the rain off the car and is rusted to bits inside. buy a new one, retain your old one and sell it on for it's titanium housed within it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Just replaced the faulty Catalytic Converter yesterday (Paid around £110!!!!), but the problem seems to be there...the engine is fine. As you put it on gear and accelerate, the car seems to struggle or lose power.(Last week while driving uphill, the car was struggling to move ahead!!!). I am told that there is some minor problem somewhere.....don't want to spend too much money on this car though.
Please let me know why is it losing power while accelerating.
