£5 spent in Mr T this morning for some fruit, galaxy ripples (on offer at £1 for pack of 4 a treat for me after my SW weigh in tomorrow night), and thick cut bacon on bogof (£3).

    Signature now updated.
    Payment A Day £15 (started 17/5/14) :j
  • I must say, I'm really enjoying having a half empty fridge. i was always afraid that I'd run out of food, and the children would go hungry. I'm slowly learning that I'll get paid again, and then I'll have more money, so I don't need so much stuff in the house.

:o this is my problem too and my daughter grew up and left home 4 years ago
i was still "stuck" on overbuying as a default brain setting , came from the days when she was little and I was still with her dad , who was always losing his job or spending all the money on drugs :(
that was all nearly 20 years ago but I was still panicking if the fridge started to look empty , now I am actually enjoying seeing the fridge look less like a wall of food :rotfl:

I can relate to that with my DDs dad!! I still do it now - not 20yrs ago like you just 2yr ago but i'm trying to train myself that I have a regular income and surplus money so it's not the end of the world if I have to pop to the shop to get us some food as the money is there - before I had to over buy as soon as got money as worried i'd not be able to feed my DD once he'd spent all the money on his drugs... well shot of him!!

I really need to get our food shopping under control. For April I'll aim for £350 for all food/alcohol/household/entertainment (but not toiletries, as that's another budget) for me, OH and our greedy puppy! But I'll have to try to get it down after that, particularly with our mortgage interest rate going up in a year's time- certainly won't hurt to try to build up some savings.

We've already cut down on alcohol, switched to own brands for things we can bear, and we sometimes take our lunches to work but we lose interest in doing that pretty quickly! Any other tips that might help me?? Thanks!

a mixture of monet to nursery and a small te$co shop has tipped me over budget, however i have enough food to feed the 10 thousand and 2 te$co vouchers worth £25 (so £50), i have another lot of nursey money to pay out of this budget, and really i don't think i'm doing 2 bad given how much food i have

It normally tells you on the baking powder tub how much you need to add to various recipes. Different recipes require different ratios which is why it realy is actualy best to use plain flour and add your own baking powder rather than chance buying the "one suits all" self-raising flour.

  • Had a bit of a wobble today - thought about popping out for some spuds, apples, milk and bread! Managed to avoid it, but it was close. It is becoming a struggle - but I've still plenty of food in the house to see me through! Powdered milk is starting to look a bit thin of the ground!!

So, over the half way mark with only 15 more days to go!! But, at least the freezer is starting to look a bit more roomy!

  • hi all,

been and done my weekly shop at m'sons today, grand total of £53.48:eek:should last untill thursday next week but might need more bananas for the beasties:p

was really good and didn't buy any crisps or chocolate (we try to snack on fruit instead) and i'm going to make weetabix loaf and peanut butter cookies again to satisfy any sugar cravings over the next week:D

last night i made some brocoli and potato soup (added very low salt vegetable stock cube, some pepper and herbs) to use up leftover veg before shopping today, haven't tried it yet but it smells delicious:Dwill serve with grated cheese on top and some bread!!

for the week we will be eating: the homemade soup, pasta and sauce, pork chops and mash, eggy bread, roast chicken with all the trimmings, chicken and rice biriani, pizza and chips, beef stew for two meals

only £28.57 left of my GC budget so not 100% that i'm going to manage it but will try my very bestest :o

    good luck everyone:)
