Is it fair to conclude that if Avast doesn't treat antivirus seriously, then they don't treat viruses seriously?

Probably think that been a bit more modern and with it will appeal to the numptys that dont really do security and get them to interact/understand a bit more . Updates what updates i dont need them i have an anti virus they dont need updating .

I can (attempt to) be amusing about almost every subject you like, but having spent far too much of my life removing viruses from the PCs and laptops of friends and work colleagues, I can't see why a virus update program should think it necessary to perform virus updates with accompanying stupid voices. Surely this is deeply patronising?

If you find it patronising don't use it.

    Other may find it humourous.

EDIT - it is not necessary, it is but an amusing option

meh, well my step daughters friend (14yo) likes the 'stupid voices' so at least keeps her attention on her security, which i think its a good idea

saying this same friend asked me to look at her laptop because it was 'very slow and doing funny things' when i ran the normal scans i found just over 200 bits of malware and virus's on the system, asking her why she hadnt run any virus scans with her old av (Norton) she replied with - i just didnt think about it,

so having the extra like silly voices and funny translations (pirate talk as well) will hopfully keep her at least semi aware of her protection

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    Deeply annoying to me

  • I spend more time in their forum than here, and when V5 was released, I noticed a few people wanted to change the sounds. People wanted to change them/lower the volume/whatever...
I also have a tutorial on how to do this that gets more views than anything else on my site (not really much else on it though)

So from avast's standpoint, they had to give people an option to change the sounds in an easy way.

Whether you like the sounds or not, is up to you, and they can be changed/disabled. I personally don't have the voiceover ones but that is just me.
