with this new version comes the avast sidebar gadget, all well and good but you cannot turn it off, even if you close it, it will come back at the next restart.
if you don't want the sidebar gadget showing up on every start up, go to add/remove programs, and double click avast, select 'change' (not remove) then in the list that comes up untick the 'avast gadget' and click next, restart when prompted and it's gone.

other than that it's a solid update.
  • Yeah, I've seen that in the forum...I like it, but only in the smaller form. The spinning logo is kinda eerie...

The redneck sound pack is hilarious :D

  • what is the webrep thing I declined it, I don't like things that annoy and it looked like it might have.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Just hijacked the mrs's computer and installed the pirate voice. Can't wait for the panicked "my computers doing something funny" shout when it up dates.

Is it fair to conclude that if Avast doesn't treat antivirus seriously, then they don't treat viruses seriously?

I wouldn't come to that conclusion.

I take it a sense of humour has no place in computer protection?
I can't see an obvious connection. Do you find the effect of viruses amusing?
