  • The last cat I saw get hit died instantly. I was right there, I was with him in seconds and he was killed outright. The images have stayed with me and if that had been my own cat... well I don't know, it was hard enough when I didn't know that cat so goodness knows if it had been one of mine.

Tell me about it. I went to the corner shop the other week and when I came back, there was a tabby cat on the side of the road in the gutter. I immediately stopped the car, got out and went to the cat, he was already gone, killed outright by the looks of things. I went to the nearest house and asked for a bag or something I could put him in, popped him in and placed him under a bush and went home and called the council, who assured me that as he didn't have a collar on (if he had, I would have taken him to his home), they would scan him, then take him away and contact the owner.

    Anyway...forward wind a week...

I saw a poster of the tabby cat on a post just close to where I found him, so again, pulled over the car and went to take the poster so I could call the owner...as I was taking it down, a lady came running towards me from a nearby house, just stood in front of me and said 'I know what you're going to say' then just burst into tears, which of course made me burst into tears as well. We spoke a little bit and cried at each other for a few minutes (I have three cats and feel like the whole cat population of the world needs to be protected by yours truly), and she asked that I take the poster with me so she didn't have to walk back into the house with it, so I took it with me...I still have it because I just feel like I'm throwing her poor, lovely cat away if I put it in the bin :(

The council never contacted her, despite the fact he was chipped...

How dreadful for you and the cat owner. This sounds awful, but thank god I didn't have to wait a week, because I know I wouldn't have slept and I'd probably be worse than I am now- wondering where Milamber was.

You're the sort of person who gives me fath in humanity, and also reinforces the gratitude that I feel that I found him when I did

(((((Hugs))))) to you Sazzy, and God Bless Milamber and every good memory of him. Hope he's now keeping my precious Marmaduke
    (PTS 4th Feb) company.
RIP Marmaduke 04.02.11, MIsty 09.06.12 and Rufus 19.7.24 very, very sadly missed xxx

I read your thread neffy, and my thoughts are with you xxx I truely believe that they're playing togather at the bridge and waiting for us. The only way I'm holding it together is knowing I'm going to see my Milamber(23-02-11), Patch(18-08-2000) and Blue(04-04-08) again

    xx

Much, much worse for the owner than for me obviously, but I tell you, my cats all got the squeeze of their lives when I got home, much to their annoyance...

Oh, I don't know about faith in humanity...I'm a hideous nag and increasingly intolerant of actual people as I get older...but cats, whether they be mine or someone else's, I would do anything for!

I hope this past week has got a bit easier for you and your other half to bear and may the sharp stab of loss lessen in the time to come. Thinking of you and all the other 'parents' that have lost a much loved pet recently xx

Aw Sazzy - I have found it so hard to keep my act together - Marmaduke was the first cat that was truly my own. I took him on after his previous Mummy died and he was nearly 9 years old at the time.

I don't have any other kitties to lavish my love on and feel totally bereft. How are your other 'babies' doing ? - must be so strange for them, too.
RIP Marmaduke 04.02.11, MIsty 09.06.12 and Rufus 19.7.24 very, very sadly missed xxx

neffy-I've got Milambers mother (Ruto), father (Baldrick), sister (Katala)and half sister (CeeCee) as well as Saria-the only one who is no relation, but feels like the patriach!-They all seem to be fine apart from Katala, who seems to be yelling a lot, and wants carried everywhere(which she does).

I wish I could help you in this horrible time, and people will say to get another cat...and maybe you will, but nothing will replace Marmaduke in your heart, he'll always have a special place. Honestly my heart goes out to you xx

Tatty-I know what you mean. My partner and I don't like people very much..but there's a stray black cat who doesn't seem to have a home running about our garden, and I've just spent 10 minutes out in the garden patting him because he doesn't seem to get love anywhere else..in fact it was just beside Mils grave, where I was sitting with him, and thought ''black cat'' -we've called him that-deserved some of the love ours get.

    Hope I'm making sense

    Sazzy xx
