I have been reading up on the GI diet today. Anyone following it and would like to compare notes?

there are a couple of low GI threads
cheap, easy low gi
wheat gluten free/low gi/sugar free
low gi bread
weight loss the OS way - our main weightloss thread which is full of others supporting each other on all sorts of diets
Join in for the support.
I eat a lot of lentils and chickpeas , eggs, basmati rice, and try to be low GI but don't follow any b ooks or anything. I should really read those threads myself! :rotfl:
I'll merge this later on.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

there's also a low carb diet support thread on Health and Beauty Moneysaving.
There are quite a few of us lowcarbing just now, it might be worth seeing if this thread takes off? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

I gave up sugar 2 years ago - I started by switching to fruit sugar just to get over the processed sugar craving, but after a couple of weeks, I found I didn't need sweet stuff (which was good 'cos fruit sugar is not cheap, although as a ex-chocoholic it was cheaper than all the chocolate I used to buy!).
Also, I found that after a few months, everything tasted sweeter than it used to anyway. I now drink cocoa (not drinking choc) with just a few drops of vanilla essence, and find it sweet enough, like dark choc.
It is really hard to find any processed food that does not have added sugar though. Most products in tins and jars, most cooked or cured meats, and a lot of frozen foods have added sugar, in one form or another.
When I do want a sweet treat, I make oat biscuits or muffins, substituting honey for the sugar as it is lower GI. I've found you can do this for most recipes with sugar in them, with a little experimentation. I've even made chutneys with honey. If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
Thanks guys.
Will investigate your suggestions.

Hello
I'd like to start a low GI diet on Monday so will be watching this thread with interest. I work FT but have a toaster and microwave at work so need to come up with some things to eat for lunch.
My menu plan so far is porridge for breakfast, a wholemeal pitta with scrambled eggs and brown sauce for lunch and wholemeal pasta for dinner.
Thats it, thats all I can think of! I suppose I can fill the pittas with any protein/salad..I'm struggling for ideas though. Would love to see what everyone else eats/is planning to eat.
I have 7lbs to lose (as a start
