3,300 people are on 36 month contracts
Orange have confirmed they will scrap their 36 month contracts by 1st May 2011 to comply with the new EU legislation.
Uswitch report that 3,300 people have signed up to 36 month contracts.

Wonder when those of us currently in a 36 month contract get to know what it means for us?

Absolutely nothing; you are in a legally binding contract.0

They're just not offering them any more. The ones running will just carry on.0

I suppose if you want a decent all bells and whistles handset for nothing or next to nothing the contract term will have to be 24mth to 36mth to recoup the subsidised handset cost.
Not such a thing as a free handset or lunch!!! (well for most of us!)0 -

This is exactly what I would presume. When this first came up there was some reference to "transitional arrangements" to yet being agreed - I didn't know if a change in the law could actually change presently running contracts. I presume it won't as 36 month contracts are still being sold (I thought they'd have already ditched them by now, knowing that they'll need to go soon).
My guess is Orange will replace the 36 month contract (which come with a replacement handset after 18 months) into a 24 month contract with no replacement handset (ie poorer value).0 -

You have to phone them and request new handset, they don't do it automatically.0 -

Yes but given EE new status really selling something that is about to be outlawed does not make viable commercial sense in consumers eyes, they are actually poor value giving 30 day sims & really making them more attractive in plan allowances before being outlawed would have made much more commercial sense in revenue & consumers eyes ! Wasted opportunity really EE !!SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... I still don't get your point diamond, for the right people 36 months contracts offered real value, why shouldn't they be offered while they're still allowed?0
