Hi

The other half has just got a new Mazda 6 Estate and we were looking at a maintenance package to help spread the cost of any servicing ect. Do these normally work out ok or are they just a big rip off?

http://www.car-maintenance-package.co.uk/

These wanted £63 per month, which seems alot to me but not sure how much it would cost though if we were to just pay for things as they came up as it seems to cover everything we will need for the next 3 years.

Any advise would be great cheers.

  • £63 a month seems steep. But if you plan to do high miles and keep the car a long time then it's handy as it includes stuff like tyres, timing belts etc.

but even if you keep it 3 years the car will probably only need two services if it is on a long life intereval...
  • Thanks for your responce she will be doing quite high mileage about 20,000 a year as its used for work aswell.
  • Just been working out its £2268 for 3 years.

And tyres on kwick Fit are £150 each so for the 60,000 miles if we use 2 sets of tyres thats £1200 just on tyres so am thinking we might go for this offer as it seems to work out quite well and means we can spread the costs. Not a clue what servicing costs are like yet but will ring the dealer to findout before doing anything just yet.

Does anybody here have any experiance of this though?
  • It's not a diesel, is it?

There's been lots of trouble with the diesel particulate filter and engine pumping diesel into the oil.

Might explain why the monthly payment seems high.

Would be interesting to see how much they want for a Mondeo estate.

    Just looked, it's £66.

    So much for that idea.
  • Yeah it is diesel also cos its the sport it comes with 18" wheels so tyres are expensive too.

Looking at that Mondeo estate price that is for 30,000 miles a year, so maybe alot cheaper depending what mileage your doing. I know when they quoted us they said it can make a big difference, cos we said 20,000 an they were asking if we would actually do 20,000 for that reason.

Servicing will be done by approved main dealers and tyres will be done at Kwick Fit centers. The tyre replacement includes general wear and tear as well as punchers.

    Jesus. :rotfl:

I haven't spent £2000 in maintenance in my whole life, most of my cars cost less than that,:eek:

Look. You are buying insurance. That has to be weighted in terms of if something serious goes wrong. It probably won't. In which case you have just wasted a shed load of money.

What you are buying is the reasurance that if the worst goes wrong, then you are covered.
    For most it doesn't

It comes down to attitude to risk yeah?, but from my point of view you'ld have to be a real pessemist to go that far, ie, you can't afford to insure against everything, fact of life;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

£63 per month in the savings would be my suggestion.

That said, if it's a Mazda 6 diesel, be afraid. Be very afraid. These engines have a reputation for letting go expensively.

If it's a new car then surely that's Mazda's problem if it does?

I agree with the £63 a month in the savings thing though - then you don't need to go anywhere near Kwik Fit for tyres and that's worth it's weight in gold
  • Right been looking into this further, servicing is every 12 months or every 12,500 miles so that works out I need 4 services. Still not rang the dealer yet but if they are only £150 each thats £600, plus the £1200 I worked out earlier for tyres, so thats £1800 for tryes and servicing.

I assume I would need a set of brakes in that 60,000 miles too so theres atleast another couple hundred pound, now assuming nothing else goes wrong that means they do have a couple hundred in it for them plus any discount they get. But it does mean I get to spead the money instead of getting a big bill having to put it on the credit card and paying interest while paying it off.

The saving the money each month is great idea, but to be honest know it would end up getting spent on other stuff so then still stuck with big bill I dont have the money for. They have also offered me RAC breakdown cover for £5 a month extra which is cheaper than I currently pay.

But still not really sure :/
