Can I return phone and cancel contract?
Options
Basically I have been using a number that my is in my wifes name for the last 5 or 6 years on various contracts. At the moment it is on a 30 day sim only deal with vodafone.
I want to keep the number but wanted a new phone so went into vodafone on saturday and got a HTC Desire on £25 a month for 24 months.
However the lady in the shop(a vodafone shop) told us that we would have to get the phone with a different temporary number and phone up vodafone to get the PAC number for my wifes old number and transfer this to my new phone/acoount. However on my wife ringing vodafone today to do this she was told it can't be done like that and in fact no networks have the ability to transfer numbers internally. She said I would either have to keep the new phone with the new numbewr or take it back to the shop and return it.
My question is will the shop give me any aggro over this and will I have anything of the 24 month contract to pay.
AND secondly what is the best way of acheiving what I want?
which is to get the old number transferred into my name and get a new phone with vodafone?

The number you would like to transfer onto your new contract is in your Wife's name and you would be unable to transfer the number to a new contract which in your name.
In order to transfer the number, Vodafone would need to do a change of ownership to your number for the 30 day SIM only contract and you would then be able to take out a contract for the number.
As soon as the change of ownership is completed, you will have a time limit of 30 days to transfer the number onto your new contract and this can be done by calling the Porting Department on 08080 945 945, Option 3.
If you are intending on keeping the new number and the 30 day contract in your Wife's name is no longer needed, your Wife will have to make the cancellation request.
If you wish to return the phone and cancel the contract, you have 7 days to do this this.0 -

Thanks a lot for your clear advice.
I will return the phone and cancel the contract.
Get my wife to do a transfer of ownership on the 30 day sim number and than take out a new contract in my name. That way I will not be paying for 2 concurrent contracts.
Thanks again for your help!:jStarting MB- looking for Raf offers.

I allow for Ann S knowing better, but I've heard that only o2 allow porting numbers within their network, not only from other networks.0

We port numbers within Vodafone all the time into and out of our corporate account to/from other Vodafone accounts. Most networks just dont 'like' doing it.
The ownership point above simply cannot be the case. We port numbers into our corporate Vodafone account from new staff members that join the company by simply using the PAC. We also then allow people to retain their mobile numbers when they leave by simply issuing them a PAC (and so subsequently port out of the corporate account). There is no 'change of ownership' process. Ownership of the number is not relevant to the port process (and I am pretty sure an individual never actually 'owns' a telephone number).0 -
The 30 day contract is in a different name and cannot be transferred to another contract in an alternative name.
It would be possible to take out a contract with the 30 day SIM number in the current owners name and there would be no need to give 30 days notice as it would only be a change of tariff.0
