Friends son ran up huge bill (hundreds of pounds) using Youtube but that was a contract phone.

I would have thought that PAYG should not have allowed this
Am taking a bit of comfort from the fact that we weren't completely stupid from thinking the same as most of you guys.

If you have not signed up to a contract it sounds like yet another Tesco Mobile xxxx up !

I have found personaly there contract customer service left a lot to be desired. It took me about 7 visits to the store phone shop and numerous calls to customer service to rectify problem. They promised a number of callbacks that didnt materialise. I hope yours is resolved more speedily.:D

Are you 1000% sure it was a PAYG deal and not a 30 rolling agreement? Can't see how else it could happen.
  • Do you pay via direct debit or just top up with vouchers?
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

I wondered that, maybe their £10 a month / £40 capped SIM only deal? link with the unfortunate £4 per MB for data... maybe that's where the £10 / £30 figures came from (in error?)

Let's hope it's en error an is PAYG

10/40 capped looks like a plausible hypothesis, but surely the procedure in a shop for a contract sim has to be absolutely different from the one for a PAYG sim available at all checkouts.

Indeed it is, you have to fill in a form and be accepted for the contract, even if it is a 30 day rolling one.

Even on their 30 day rolling contract, once you use up more than three times your monthly tariff, the phone gets blocked until you make a payment. The credit limit is automatically set at 3 x monthly payment.

I know this because mine got blocked from abroad, when I phoned to complain they said it was in the T&C.
