You could get Kid1 a T-mobile SIM via Chitterchatter for £6 per month (100 mins + unlimited texts) and then add on a £5.10 booster of unlimited internet access - so that's £11.10 per month for unlimited internet and unlimited texts.
You could then get Kid2 a T-mobile SIM via Chitter chatter for £6 per month with just the 100 mins and unlimited texts. No unlocking would be needed (it would work in her current t-mobile phone).

Then buy her a decent SIM-free phone as a present, and let her make her own choice about network and tariff, and how she finances it. Lots of good SIM-only options. Otherwise you know that in a year's time or so she 'll be back asking for the latest trendy phone. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

NO - it remains £6 per month indefinitely. Great deal. Call them directly to discuss. Usually very helpful on the phone.0 -

For your daughter whose off to uni (sorry, cant stand the term 'kid' for an 18 year old), let her decide and put the contact in her name just in case something goes wrong and she has to contact the network. You can also set up a standing order to her account and any extras she should pay for herself.
For your other child i'd suggest as others giffgaf or maybe 3?0 -

Maybe forcing her to actually pay for something herself might make her realise that things cost money and you need to work for that.
You say you're skint but are buying kids phones on contracts. Recipe for disaster if you're paying it as they won't know or care what the bill is as long as someone else is picking it up. You could find yourself being landed with monthly bills for £100's.
Also bear in mind that virtually all contracts with "unlimited" anything have a fair usage policy and you'll pay if you exceed it.0 -
Think I've decided I don't want to be tied to contracts, so i think I will buy her a phone for birthday and get her the sim only deal with T Mobile and buy a 6 month web browsing bundle, which I think is £20.
Any suggestions on a nice phone for browing, but not as expensive at the HTC Wildfire!0 -

Anything with android on it should be fine, try :
Orange San Francisco
T-mobile Pulse Mini
Samsung Galaxy Apollo (Seen it on Carphone Warehouse for £80 + £10 top up)0
