Can anyone advise on 1st time contract

Bit of advice needed. My 2 kids today pleaded for me to 'buy' a contract deal for them, they're both on PAYG on T Mobile at the moment, on text appeal, so texts are just 4p. They ONLY use text.
Kid 1 is going to Uni this year, she wants a cool new phone and internet access and texts (not fussed about calls). She has mentioned her friends HTC Wildfire (just looked, expensive!)
Kid 2 got a new phone for xmas and likes it (T Mobile blackberry lookalike), locked to T Mobile, is mostly interested in unlimited texts, not internet, perhaps a little amount of calls.
I have just had a little look around and I am basically bewildered by the choice!
I am a single parent and really need to get the best deal available.
ANY help would be much appreciated.

For Kid 2 with T Mobile phone you could just get a sim only deal (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/sim-only/tariffs/) for £10.21 per month (on a rolling 31day contract). This may be your best bet, and you will not really get much cheaper unless you go PAYG.
The HTC Wildfire is one of the cheaper Android phones, and is very good for the price (approx £200 sim free). If you're going to get these type of phones you really want the internet with it. For that you are looking at least £15 a month for a reasonable deal (e.g. like T Mobile above, but add internet booster instead) with no phone (i.e. you bought the phone out right).
Alternative get the HTC on a contract which works out cheaper, e.g: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/buy/HTC-WILDFIRE-3TX20-FCON at £20 per month.
Shop around though, but that's your basics.0 -

Oh and I forgot the cashback websites!0

Try giving T-mobile a call and see what they will offer you if you sign up for 2 contracts. The Giff Gaff £5 goody bag seems ideal for kid 2 but you would have to get the phone unlocked.0

I've never even heard of Giff Gaff, but if it's £5 for unlimited texts, it sounds great! What network does it use. Now I'll have to see how to get the phone unlocked!0

O2
giffgaff mobile network
And if No2 is not interested in internet, she probably doesn't need android.0 -
I'd add my support for GiffGaff. Buy a sim from an existing member though so you get an extra £5 credit on your sim (and they get a payback too).0

giffgaff sounds excellent for the unlimited texts. Wish I'd thought of this before I bought her a T Mobile phone for xmas!0

If Kid 1 is off to university this year, then she is presumably 18 or approaching 18, and should be choosing her own phone and paying for it? Surely you're not intending to pay her phone bill for the next 3 years? HTC Wildfire is a good basic Android phone and available for about £100 SIM-free.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

she'll be living purely off student loan and grant and this is a present for her 18th and at least I will then know I can get in touch with her. I know in an ideal world she would be supporting herself by then (as I was, as I worked full time from 16), but it's not that way for her. She's a pure academic... don't think working comes into her vocabulary!0
