Finding a slush puppy maker?

My mum bought a manual slush puppy maker in the 80s. It had an insulated inner bit you stuck in the freezer. Then you'd put it back in the outside, pour in squash (sodastrema concentrate+water was better) and stir until it turned into slush.

She thinks she threw it out & my google-fu has deserted me. Any ideas where to look? I can only find electric ice-crushers which seems wasy over the top for the job.

(I vaguely remember asking this before but can't find it via the search facility)
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

The Magic Bullet machines chop up ice really well, I used to use mine for making slushy drinks in Summer.. Iced coffee was really nice done with it.

    Hi furndire :)

The I wanna board is a really good place to ask when you want to find things so I'll move your post across.

    Good luck :)

Yes, but backwards. That one starts with ice & crushes it - the one i'm on about did it the other way. You put in flavoured water to the cooled bit and stirred until ice formed.

It looked like a huge yellow plastic mug with a removable center that went into the freezer.

I could get one of those, it just looks over-engineered to me.

We use a kenwood smoothie maker, make your drink of choice and stick it in to ice cube bags and freeze them. get them out of the freezer and smash them up in the smoothie machine. you do need to pour them out of the top they are too thick for the tap but they are brilliant.

I found just smashing ice up than adding ribbena, orange or vimto what ever lost the flavour very quick. you can also use other drinks and try to freeze them.
  • Hi guys,

Just found this thread after a google or two. Apologies for bringing it back from the dead but I feel I've finally found a solution that would benefit other people that have contributed to this thread.

Whilst wandering around Tesco last night I saw a Kenwood Slushie machine on offer at £29. I've had a variety of different machines that boast this facility and all of them have come up short when compared to a slushie that I've had whilst been out at somewhere like Chester Zoo for example.

I tried it out tonight and its produced something that would be sold at over £1 a cup at any drinks retail outlet.

Its very like the smoothie maker but there is a central metal cylinder, into which you load 60ml of water, 200g of ice, a cap ful of rock salt (you layer this so you end up with 600g of ice and 3 caps of rock salt) and then you pour your juice (1l of juice of your choice mixed with 50g of caster sugar) into a different hole on the lid which causes the cylinder to rotate around the juice, 15 mins later and you dispense the slush into a cup, and enjoy with a straw.

Because of how this freezes the liquid you can even buy some of the proper slush syrup that you dilute 5:1 and use that (I've bought some from ebay so I'll let you know how I get on with that).

You should be able to pick up the kenwood slushie at your local tesco, they also have it online here:

    hope that helps

    Gutted!

Found a thread (from the day before yesterday) on HotUKDeals saying that it was reduced to £15.

Rushed down to local Tesco, and it was £39

Needless to say I left it.

If anyone else spots one for £15, please post here :)

I would be interested in your opinions of this once tested :)
  • Just bought the Kenwood Slushie Maker today at Tesco Lea Valley (North London) for £15. There were none on the shelves (other than the unboxed dog eared display model), so I asked a Tesco worker ......& they found me one out the back.

    Well happy.

This'll be great for the kids on hot days (like we ever have 'em!).

I'm now looking for proper slushie syrup ...however, at £50 a bottle (on Ebay), I think I'll pass!

I now need a home made recipe to turn orange squash into slushie syrup!
