Hire a hall, and get everybody to bring a bottle. Then nobody will get prosecuted for selling to under-age drinkers ...

  • We had this problem too when trying to book somewhere for my cousin. The only place that would let her was the local football club, they have a small function room, but we also had to have bouncers on the door, id had to be shown and if you was over 18 you got a stamp which had to be shown at the bar. This was about 4 years ago!! My nephews are 18 and 21 within a month of wach other and we wanted to throw them a joint party and are finding it impossible! So we are having to look at putting a party on in the garden then letting them move on into town later on....not idea but e dont have much option :(

Don't you have enough room to host the party yourself at your house?

Providing alcohol to minors is still an offence, not just the sale of

edited to add, the hall will also need to be a licensed premises

I would suggest that she has a get-together at your home. The you can either go out & leave them to it, or stay in and be bouncers / bar staff.

The general rules about no 18th's have been in place since I was that age, and my sons both went to lots of house parties for their college pals as nobody could book a venue for an 18th.
  • Hi all, and many thanks for all your replies.
Is it a family 18th with parents, aunts and uncles etc invited, or one for their mates. I guess the latter could put some places off.

It will be a family party and no under 18's there at all, i have mentioned this to all the places i have rang but it has made no difference.

I have just been in touch with a cricket club not far from us and they have said it will be no problem :j but on the condition that we hire their DJ and also hire a bouncer! They have quoted a price of £300 in total so not bad really.

We actually considered this but there will be around 40 - 50 guests and my house just is'nt big enough.

Once again many thanks for taking the time to reply, really appreciated.
  • Regarding under 18's,tbh we have decided that we only want 18's and over to attend, this seems to be causing quite a stir among some family members who want to bring their children, is this unreasonable?

Tell them its over 18's only, and the venue's bouncer will be checking i.d. That should solve the issue and won't be an untruth!
  • Hi, thanks floss2.

Great idea but, i don't think we would get away with it, as my SIL has been to a few do's here and she knows they allow children.
  • Been thinking about it and i will just tell them no kid's allowed, like it or lump it, my daughter's decision at the end of the day! Obviously i will need be very tactful on the invitations!
