I have no advice to add either, but I remember your previous thread, it was very brave and sad. I just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world, you will make a lovely mum second time around. Try to enjoy your pregnancy and dont look for problems. Take care and many congratulations.

Congratulations, I remember your thread when you had lost little Felix (I think that was his name) as it happened just after my nephew was also stillborn (my brother and his partner are just plucking up the courage to try again but wanted to wait so they wouldn't be due at around his birthday.

I have looked into things for them (am a midwife so got a friendly obstetrcian I trust to say what she would do) she will be going on a low dose aspirin once the pregnancy is confirmed (if lupus had come up on the tests it would have been endoparoxin) and then fortnightly scans from 26 weeks (because their son was growth restricted and it was missed) and then induced at 37 weeks (partly because of pschyologically not wanting to get to 38 weeks as they did last time)
  • Hi Redwood,

Firstly congratulations on ur pregnancy :) you must be thrilled.

I am 28 now and nine years ago next monday I had my first child she too was an angel baby due to infection of amniotic fluid at 31 weeks.

Jojo's post is really really good IMO and has great advice in it. I too became pregnant again very quickly my second child DS1 was due 12th Feb 2003 so just under a year later, I have gone on to have another healthy son born in 2007 too.

If I could give you any advice I would say try and relax don't be to convinced the same thing will happen again I allowed myself to get so worked up in my pregnancy with DS1 that I started with labour at 26 weeks thankfully the doctors managed to stop it and keep it stopped and he went to 38 wks which is the point they induced me. The consultant said i had such bad anxiety that is what started the contractions I thought it sounded stupid at the time but he was adamant and from then on I had to learn to calm down and chill out remember that the pregnancy was different and not panic.

I would also agree with don't be scared to say how you feel the midwives at my local hospital were fantastic as was my community midwife they classified me as high risk but from what i could gather the plan is different dependant on what happenned last time but for me it was a scan every 4 weeks after my 20 week scan and induction at 38 wks.

I knew what the plan would be before I even got pregnant our consultant agreed to meet us before just after Jessica's birth so we could discuss it. Jessica never had a PM (I objected to it) so her cause of death was just believed to be amnionitis and he was happy to talk about what other causes there may have been and what the future looked like for us Have you had any sort of appointment like this ? If not you could ring your local hospital and see if your consultant would see you mine was organised directly not through the GP as I didnt find them much use tbh

Try and relax and enjoy you're pregnancy hun

If I can be of any help please feel free to PM me xxx

Many congratulations on your pregnancy. A friend of mine went on to have a successfull pregnancy after suffering a stillbirth. She fell pregnant, as you have, within a few months of her awful loss. Do ask for as much care as you need. My friend felt so much better and more relaxed once her midwife arranged regular appointments and extra scans.

I wish you all the luck in the world and hope things go smoothly for you :)
  • Thank you to everyone for your congratulations. Its nice to hear that woman who have had stillbirths have gone onto have successful pregnancies. It is also nice to hear from people who read the thread I posted just after I had lost my son (Yes, his name is Felix :)).

Jowo, I appreciate your input, but I find the first 3 points you made a little bit patronising. He is very much a part of my life and all the Christmas cards I sent were from me, my partner, Felix and our puppy. He will continue to feature in everything I do. His name is for him, and will not be used for anyone else. I intend to let my Goddaughter (when she is born) use the toys he would have had, and I will be using everything for my next baby. Siblings (and close friends) share things and It would grieve me more if his clothes/toys were never used. There are pictures of him all over our house and I have a box that contains everything I have - even the tissues were used to wipe his face in the time after he had been born - of him.

That said, I know you did not mean to offend and if you have experience in gynae I am very appreciative. I did not have a section with my son - I was not allowed - but I want one at 36 weeks with this pregnancy. I could not face a normal delivery again, and would want to deliver early for my own sanity more than anything.

Poppyscorner - It is funny you should mention a consultant appointment. I am seeing him tomorrow morning (nearly 5 months after the birth) although I am not sure what will be discussed. I never met the man during my pregnancy or during the delivery so i am not sure what use he will be). He also never saw Felix. We did not have a PM with Felix as the cord being wrapped very tighly around his neck was enough for us. I know, however, that tests were done on the placenta. My only hope for tomorrow is that if there was a problem with Felix (he was very small, as was the placenta) my next pregnancy will be managed better. I had poor care throughout although I do not think it contributed to my son's death.

Thank you again to everyone who has contributed. It is just so upsetting that so many people have experience (directly or otherwise) of stillbirth.
  • hiya,

my brother and sister in law wet through the same thing a while ago now, they had a little girl who was stillborn at 41 weeks. the hospital was really good and let us all visit to meet her and have some pictures done etc so we had some memories. it was such a hard time especiall for the parents and thier older girl but somehow they got through it together.
they have since gone on to have another girl who is 3 a little boy who is 1 and are awaiting the arrival of another little blessing at the moment. i now they have been under consultants since they had thier little girl who was stillborn and manyscans i think like everytwo weeks and extra tests, and they induce her two weeks early as well.

good luck and congratulations. hope everyhting goes well for you. x
now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j
  • congratulations x x
My friend and her health visitor have written a book called 'you are my sunshine' . My friend had a 42 week still birth (a beautiful angel girl) and then went onto have 2 lovely boys. It is an inspirational, uplifting, compelling read and i can't praise it enough.
