Do homemade NO PARKING signs have any legal standing?

Hi everyone,
would just like a bit of advise please.
I work in town on minimum wage so cant realy afford to pay for parking at over £5 a day so i along with others park in a DIY superstore carpark for free. They have realised people are doing this and put some notices on cars saying it is a car park for customers only for 2 hours and to stop parking here or a fine will be issued. As they have no signs around the carpark or anything i just ignored the notice as did everyone else.
That was a few months a go and now they have put up home made signs saying customer parking only for 2 hours. They are very cheap looking homemade from a bit of wood and laminated! Would they be able to give parking fines or do they have to employe a company to patrol carpark properly?
I would just like to say this is a huge carpark and i have never seen it full even at peak trading times, i wouldnt park there if i was taking spaces off of there customers.
Thanks for any answers

Don't mean to be critical here, but what you and others are doing is abusing the car park, and the next step for them is to get a PPC in probably, then we have another site issuing invoices and trying to scam drivers!
Park your car elsewhere or try public transport, maybe park and ride ? Or car share or some other method, I am sure that no regular user on here would be saying the same thing !Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

I have to agree. It is the minority who choose to deliberately abuse private parking that have spawned the whole PPC industry with all the consequences that entails for those who make genuine mistakes or fall victim to made up PPC world contraventions.0 -
thanks for your input taffy056 and i can see where you are coming from but there are no park and rides here and busses are not an option for me.0

The reason PPCs and Clampers exist, is because of people like you. The DIY store have been very far with you so far. Stop abusing their land!0 -
The signs have no legal standing whatsoever and they cannot fine you.
I know this happens at a retail park a couple of miles from me, but as it doesn't ever appear to get full the owners have turned a blind eye.
Another retail park I have visited actually locks the car park after a certain time and I have seen people stuck in there.
You should try and find another solution as you are taking the p!ss0 -

Again may sound critical but its not the car park owners problem its yours. It really would be advisable to find somewhere else to park if driving to work is the only option!0 -

lesson: don't take the p*** out of private property. that's not what this sub-board is about. it focuses on greed-driven PPC's targeting the unaware, the vulnerable and the gullible; all of which doesn't include the 'I'll park where I like and for as long as I like' motorist.
sorry about that...0 -

True they can't fine you but if they get a PPC in and change their signage ,they can CLAMP or TOW you! (for the time being )0 -
The OP's attitude is far too prevalent in this day and age. "I've got a problem, and I'm going to solve it by making it someone else's problem"
It's your problem and your problem alone.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
