We also purchased an AEG drier 12 months ago and it clearly said in the documentation that came with the drier that we were responsible for completing the additional 5 years guarantee. We did it all online and received confirmation from AEG with a certificate.

OP, have you contacted AEG to see if there is a 5 year parts & labour guarantee on this model?

Or just follow others advice and call AEG! ;)
  • I will contact them in the morning. I was curious as it seemed AEG was only selling the extended warranty. Thanks.

I used to work for DomGen selling these warranties - AFAIK you only got a 12 month warranty as standard.

i seriously would not keep the item if only the shop offer you a 5 year gurantee - it will be worthless IMO

DSR - cannot charge you restocking but can charge you return delivery if they made it clear when ordering

Under SOGA return would have to be to their cost so it depends if they will pick it up free of charge i guess.

If the shop offers me a 5 year guarantee, it would likely be with their warranty insurance provider Domestic and General which I'd be happy with.

The website T & Cs states a return via DSR would be chargeable so I will have to go down the SOGA route if the company isn't helpful.

Thanks again for all your help.
  • You could still go down the Distance Selling Reg's route, and claim that way.
Even though the T&C's may say that the return costs are your responsibility, the retailer is still not allowed to charge for this if the goods were incorrectly supplied or faulty.

From the OFT guidelines on the DSR's.

3.57 If the goods are faulty or do not comply with the contract, you will have to pay for their return whatever the circumstances[/QUOTE]

And if it was clearly advertised as having a 5 year warranty, but this wasn't provided, I can't see that there is any argument that it didn't comply with the contract you agreed to.
  • I would personally keep the thing, give them a final opportunity to arrange the 5 year warranty and, if they refused, take out a separate policy and claim the cost from them.

Contact 365Electrical and ask for the 5 year warranty form. It is common practice that you have to claim the extended warranty as it is provided by a third party.
