    Hey guys, quick update.

I went LTSB yesterday, queue was ridiculously long so I came back home. Today I was in town anyway so thought I'd try out Barclays. Went in and the atmosphere was really nice. The lady told me that no one was available till 1 so I did some window shopping for a while. Came back I was taken downstairs (it's a really nice glass building with about 3 floors), and some lady took me to a booth and set my account up for me. She did ask me some personal questions like what I was planning on doing at Uni, I thought she was just making polite conversation, but then she went to tap at the keyboard for a minute and it dawned on me she was writing this all down!. Anyway, she told me about online banking, and standing orders and DD. She told me if I should have the money 24 hours before the DD is due and if I don't have it in I'll be charged £8 a day! All in all pleasant experience, although it did feel like I was being interrogated or maybe that was the blank expression on her face that made me feel like that lol.

good that you opened it :)
shouldn't be charges due to the under 19's acc
limit on the £8 per day i think it is £60 per month threshold

The debit card you will get with the Barclays Young Person's Account is a Visa debit card (full authorisation), not Electron. They have phased out Electron. When you get your card, the first 4 digits should be 4658. The debit card will look like this: http://www.barclays.co.uk/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1259956575387&ssbinary=true

An appointment is not necessary. Walk in and expect to wait for a while, depending on how many customers are in the branch.

There is another account which pays higher interst, which is the Lloyds TSB under 19's account. http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/under_19s_account.asp . Have a think about it. :)

Got my card and online membership card today! :T

Not happy with the postman however, he didn't push the post all the way through the letterbox and anyone could have pinched it

The card does indeed look like that but doesn't have those three wave things at the top, it does start with 4658, so dunno what to make of that.

The three wave thing at the top is known as the contactless facility. It allows you to buy things up to £15 without a PIN number.

That facility is available on the following bank accounts:

Barclays Bank Account (you will be upgraded to this when you reach 18/19)
    Higher Education Account/Graduate Additions
Student Additions (you can apply for this when you go to uni)
    Current Account Pllus
    Additions Active
    Premier Life
    Premier Current Account
