Same network, additional contract, port number?

OK will try and keep this brief:
I currently have an airtime agreement with Voda that has 5 months to run. The handset is knackered and I was going to upgrade to an iPhone when it ran out. I can do an early upgrade, but the costs are silly (an extra £50 on new customers), and no Quidco.
I was thinking of taking out a new contract for an iPhone (going through Quidco), then settling my existing contract. The question is though will I be able to take my number across from one contract to the other, or do I need to go through the mess of porting off to a PayG on another network, then porting it back to my new contract? If so how long will I need to leave it on the PAYG SIM & Network for?
Thanks in advance.

I don't quite understand how you are going to sell the existing contract though.0 -
