Oops didn't quite 'quote' right did I?!!!!! But you all get my drift!
You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
    You just keep on walking
  • we had an horrendous experience with Argos - the suite had a flaw so we rang & they couldn't say when they could get a replacement so they arranged to collect & deliver a different suite - they could send a 2 seater immediately, the 3 seater would follow 6 weeks later & they couldn't give us a definitive date on the chair - 'try ringing in 4 weeks to see if we still stock the item'!! - needless to say we cancelled the whole deal, I wrote a detailed later (I've given you the shortened, simplified tale) & they apologised & sent compensation. - went to Kingdom of Leather & had a showroom suite, placcy wrap still on as cancellation by buyer & picked it up 3 days later
3 months later I wa still waiting for refund from Argos back onto my Argos account with them after sending red bills - their departments don't 'talk to each other' - needless to say I cancelled the Argos card as well, I had only taken it up to use the 9 months IF period

:hello:Thumbs up for DFS from me, try to wait for the sale though

Me too. On my second lot from them, and have been very pleased with them.

However, I completely agree with ckerrd - if you can find one you like and you have the transport, then get from ebay. I've heard of people getting almost brand-new sofas for 99p.

my major reservation about buying from ebay is that you dont get a chance to sit on it and see if you actually find it comfortable!!

i think i will end up riding my luck with dfs in their january sale (if they have one, i hope so!)
     R&R since 1/12/06 = £549 :D :shhh:

I expect they will - they seem to have a January sale, February sale, March sale - its always 'must end soon' & the following month they have another one!!

Yesterday we bought a new suite after looking for some weeks.

DFS/CFS/Harveys generally seem expensive to me. Also I can'r stand being followed around by their salespeople. I've been around lots recently.

In the end we purchased from a small local furniture warehouse. Quality is good (Hardwood frames, glued and screwed) and about half the price of DFS and Harveys. And best of all guranteed delivery before Christmas, which most of the big chains are struggling to do now. We only paid a small deposit and balance on delivery too.
  • If you want a sofa to last a long time then look for "Tetrad" the likes of DFS wont do anything up to that standard. My mother has had a Tetrad suite for over 40 years (not very fashion conscious but it's probably back in fashion now) I, by coincidence saw a Tetrad in my local furniture shop Archibalds. They are, I think, now owned by a nationwide company Vogue so try googling and seeing the difference in quality. The leather is three times as thick as that on cheaper furniture. Three years on and a destructive cat and it still looks good as new.

I have no personal experience of DFS but I have heard of them referred to as a credit company who just happen to sell sofas.

I bought two lovely leather sofas in the Sofa Sofa sale (which is pretty much constant). They are good quality, I only had to wait four weeks and they arrived at the exact time I was told they would. UK made, lovely quality too - but you do have to pick them online of trek to their one showroom.

I was about to correct the link - you beat me to it. I also bought a sofa from them just over 3 years ago. A great service and it was about £200-£250. Need to replace it now due to moving as it doesn't fit in with colours and I only had 1 3-seater sofa while I was renting. I've looked at DFS etc but think I'm going to try and source out the local sofa places - think I'll get more for my money there.

Do I want screwed and glued hardwood?
