Sofa Debate... Where to buy? DFS? Land of Leather?

Hurrrrrah...... just bought a flat hope to move in before the new year... so HOPEFULLY will be able to make use of the jan sales and buy a suite etc, probably a 3 and a 2 seater.

Just wondering if there are any opinions here, it seems DFS is the big player in the sofa world but I have read mixed reports on how good they are.

I dont really have a preference on if it is leather or fabric.

Thanks

Dunno if you have a Klaussner near you, but we have found them to be very good. We went in to buy a £699 table 3 weeks ago and they were doing a 3 for 2 offer. I know these offers usually add up to the actual value of the items, but this seemed a good (not great) deal and we needed a new 3 & 1 seater so we went for it. Ended up leaving with a 5 week delivery date for all 3 and £1600 less in our pockets (well, we will by the end of the 3 year 0% finance). Found them helpful, the table arrived last week and is very good. The sofas are coming on Monday (1.5 weeks ahead of schedule) so I'll let you know how they are.

So, in short, Klaussner are my recommendation.:T

We've just got a leather one from Multiyork - paid a bit more for it, but so far the service has been exceptional. They ahve a very good reputation and the styles are quite classic. Ours had to be a particular size to fit in a square bay window, so is smaller than average, more like an extra wide armchair, but provides 2 extra seats in a small sitting room! Might be worth a look.

eBay. Bought two leather ( a 3 seater and a 2 seater)sofas from a dealer for the price of a three seater locally. Superb quality.
We all evolve - get on with it
  • Land of leather were good for me ordered online they said delivery within 28 days .15 days later they called to say could they deliver my new sofa next day at about mid day. It actually arrived at 11.55 Perfect service.

I have no personal experience of DFS but I have heard of them referred to as a credit company who just happen to sell sofas.

I bought two lovely leather sofas in the Sofa Sofa sale (which is pretty much constant). They are good quality, I only had to wait four weeks and they arrived at the exact time I was told they would. UK made, lovely quality too - but you do have to pick them online of trek to their one showroom.

Have a search through the forums before buying from DFS. Lots of people having lots of problems.

We had ours made to order in Stockport and it worked out about the same price.

John Lewis have a good sofa range. Choose it in the shop, and order online for quidco points. They'll send you free swatches from the website (and probably in the shop too) which are handy to take with you when you next go to choose curtains.
  • Just bought a 3 piece and a 2 peice from DFS for £900. I felt that the service in store was like that on a car forecourt (found this very irritating). However, it was the only place that had a sofa in stock that we like, so i would definitely say the range was good.

Ours was delayed for 4 weeks without compensation and found the staff less than helpful when arranging delivery times.

All in all, they were the only place that had a sofa that we liked at a reasonable price.

I had a look in Reid (scotland and Ireland) and Land of Leather the other day. I suggest that you do what I did and walk into stores you are considering with no intention of buying on the day. Sit down on a selection of sofas and then walk out of the shop. My findings from doing this was that L of L were cheaper, poorly presented, inferior quality and had credit offers of 29.9%!!
