I had hoped to start putting whatever was left over at the end of each week into our new savings account so that we wouldn't have any nasty surprises but I'm just so infuriated that these things have happened on my 1st month in our new regime! My OH has just thrown into the conversation that he needs 2 new tyres!!
I just want to stick to my budget but his stupid car keeps throwing me off balance!!! Why can't we go back to a horse and cart!!Shellshock  or Nik now the shock has subsided!!DMP March 11Savings account opened Jan 11 £10£1 coin savings tin - £22Total Debt [STRIKE]Jan £31,519.87[/STRIKE]!!!:( March [STRIKE]£30,879[/STRIKE] April £30,202DMP Member 4020 -

I've got a horse you can borrowbut I'd hazzard a guess thats he's not too much cheaper, a bicycle on the other hand
On a serious note though it is maddening when you psyche yourself up for the start of a fresh challenge and your blown in the first week, almost on the catchup straight away. Trouble is these days its not like years ago when people worked 2 mins from home . Everyone commutes now which is a huge cost, petrol, train etc just to get to work.
I met someone last week who had to ring in sick from work for the last 2 days before pay day because he couldn't afford to put petrol in the car. How is this gonna help the economy. Its madness, so many people don't have jobs through the recession redundancys and those that do can't afford to get to them.:beer:0 -

Because the horse would need feeding and new horse shoes and the cart would prob need a new wheel too
Don't dispair, these things come up, and usually with the worst possible timing - but at least you have an agreed plan to look to work to going forward.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I know exactly what you mean Cyril. Unfortunately my husbands job requires him to drive over 1000 miles a month inspecting the roads - he gets paid mileage but this never goes up when petrol prices increase!
I don't think he'd fancy doing that on a bike!:DShellshock  or Nik now the shock has subsided!!DMP March 11Savings account opened Jan 11 £10£1 coin savings tin - £22Total Debt [STRIKE]Jan £31,519.87[/STRIKE]!!!:( March [STRIKE]£30,879[/STRIKE] April £30,202DMP Member 4020 -

Funny though I don't feel able to compromise on the quality of the food my animals have. My dog has JWB which is £50 a bag .
Have you tried getting this off the internet? I get the 15 kg bags for mutt (she's my biggest expense!) and I don't pay that much. I think last time I paid about £75 for 2 18kg bags (there was an extra 3kg free) and free delivery. Plus cashback from quidco. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I have just read through this thread since i last posted and am a bit ashamed. I really didnt know how lucky i have got it. I truly commend all who are managing on next to nothing and bringing kids, pets, familys up in this tight society. I dont have to really worry about money but i am going to think twice now before spending because i can. Heart wrenching stuff.
