Hi everyone. Well i've done my weekly shop today. I walked to the supermarkets, for the exercise, to save petrol, which i very often do, and because they are cheaper than the local shop. 47p for my bread, for sandwiches, beans on toast etc, and 45p for my milk. I overspent, as i saw a bag apples for 79p from the value range. One looked as though it had a bite taken out of it, ( seriously, i'm sure it had ), the rest were bruised, so i asked the shop assistant if he would reduce them, and he took one look and said, ugh, yes, so i got a bag of apples for 29p yippee. Beggars can't be choosers, they just need a bit of minor surgery. So my shop came in at £1.21, minus the two 5p coins i found on monday = £1.11.

I think that will be it for this week. It remains to be seen how much i can spend, next week.

Well done on the apples - it might not be your first choice to pick the ones looking a bit sorry for themselves but a bit of creativity can be awfully satisfying.

Tell me to butt out, but you seem very down atm (your username makes me sad) - I am not sure of your exact situation, but I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel for you. You mentioned earlier you are driving a car you can't afford - is there any way that you could reduce any of the costs associated with the car? I'm assuming that you do need it and it's not worth selling to help you get back on your feet a little more in the short term? x

Thanks kerri gt. I'm been trying to change my username, and everyone keeps suggesting it, and i'm no further forward with that, either. The wheels of industry and all that.

Hmm, the apples were more than a little sorry for themselves, more like half eaten and in a pillow fight :) never mind. Its like the time when someone looked down their nose at me for buying broken chocolate. Ooooo I, can't buy that, they said to me. Why not? i replied. Its going to get broken the minute you put it into your mouth. It all goes down the same way................ :rotfl:

I have budgeted £15 for the above for me and my cat and seems to work.

By going at the right time to the supermarket I can get a weeks worth of food for around £5. I try and make my meals at around £1 a day. :-D

Looking at the above, £6 a week on cleaning products is a huge amount!

    £45 a week for 1 person sounds a massive amount - £6.42 a day!

Sunday afternoon I got the following:
    Pack of 6 sausages x 2 - 19p each
    Pack of mince - 30p
    French Bread - 30p
    Bag of carrots - 20p
    Bag of potatoes - £50p
    Cheese - £2 (instead of £4)
Loaf of brown bread (stays fresh longer) - 30p

The above totals £4.18 and my meal plan for this week is:

Monday Breakfast - Cereal with milk (repeated everyday)
Monday Lunch - Cheese and Mayo french stick.
Monday Dinner - 2 Sausages and mash with gravy with carrots.
Tuesday Lunch - Cheese and Mayo french stick.
Tuesday Dinner - Curried Cottage Pie with carrots.
Wednesday Lunch - 2 sausages in frech stick.
Wednesday Dinner - Left over cottage pie.
Thursday Lunch - Jacket Potato with cheese.
    Thursday Dinner - Carrot Soup.
Friday Lunch - Left over carrot soup.
Friday Dinner - Cheesy Chips - made with potatoes/cheese

And I will still have cheese, a couple of sausages and some potatoes left so will have cost £4.18 this week!
    wow love your planning.

my food shop is roughly £200p/mth including dog and cat food thats for 2 adults and a growing 2 year old, who loves apples and bannanas x

I shopped at Aldi on Tuesday-60 odd quid rather than my £160 Tesco shop-eek!!!Ok,I didn't fill the basket with tons of goodies like at Tescos, but at £100 per week less,I'll live with that! It'd only be bad for my waistline anyway;)
    Debt-free...and staying that way...
  • After bills, rent, debt and everything I am left with a grant total of £68 per month to spend on me. This covers any clothes or treats I want to get myself, if I want to go to an exercise class, extra petrol if we go for a day trip, eating out / take aways, drinks in pub or anything that counts as 'non-essential'

Sounds like a little to have left over to some people but as long as I have enough petrol in my car, food in cupboards and I'm finally making progress on my credit card, I'm grateful for anything! So £68 to me is a lot lol :)

Woohoo I got out the supermarket without buying chocolate so thankyou lauzellen for those handy tips. Am gonna start a weekly shop budget for me, my pony and the doogly.

To start me off am feeling smug cos I got 5 packs of nice mince reduced to £1.05 each so can make loads of chilli and spag bol to freeze.

Funny though I don't feel able to compromise on the quality of the food my animals have. My dog has JWB which is £50 a bag and the pony has branded food aswell £10 a bag. I've never seen offers on horse feed or very many on the big JWB's. Each will last abut 3 weeks. This makes me feel bad when I read on here how little some people have to feed their kids.
