I have owned GKP since they were 34p in June 2009

You have quite a history with this company... you must have been very pleased when they made the announcement of their recent sucess!

Like Tullow, this is a share to research and invest in, if you want to get the best out of it, rather than to trade.

I have done a fair bit of reading around and have just been waiting for a convenient time to buy in, and it looks like the placement will provide this opportunity.

Also, you mentioned Tullow as the obvious company to profit from the Guyane area... what about Wessex Exploration (WSX)? I realise they only have a very small stake, but, given their small size, this could be massive for them. I'm trying to figure out how the operation and profits are divided, which, I think, will determine how succesful this is for them. Are they simply able to claim a given percentange of the total operating group profits? Or
  • People criticised the company for choosing to list on AIM. Now they openly say they want to move to the main market.

why havent they gone main market. Is it because of much greater regulation and scrutiny, they are about the largest aim share listed

I think they need to do this to be bought up really, at least partially by some pension funds
  • Their intention to do so was announced this last Wednesday as they announced their half-year results to analysts. The question now is when.

Sabretooth, not sure what you mean.

The anomaly is not that they've doubled in price in the last month but that they had halved in price in the preceding 8 months. That in a period when reserves have approx. doubled, political risk has reduced, oil and gas law has moved closer, Kurdistan is exporting again and companies have begun to be paid by central govt. They're sitting on 20 Billion barrels of oil, and Tony Haywood and his city chums think the risk worth taking. If Tony is talking down the value, it may be because he has hopes of taking over GKP as well.

There are possibly only a handful of companies that have the financial and political clout to bid for GKP, Tony Hayward and Genel is definitely not one of them.

Take your pick from Exxon, Chevron or my preference the Chinese. (Far deeper pockets !!).
  • Who are the largest holders of their shares. My perception is there is alot of freely available shares not tied to anyone in particular but if anyone tried to take them the price would suddenly rise

I didnt like that the directors are not large investors in their own company, so who would do the deal that will favour shareholders so much

The owner is a very succesful American. IMHO, he will not rest until he has a place on the board of Exxon or Chevron and $1billion in the bank. IOW with his present holding and future options a t/o price of around £18/share should do it.

I sold at 177p when I thought the share price was on it's way back down... I have been kicking myself ever since! I've been waiting for a pullback to get back in but the share price just keeps rising. Am I too late to buy in at these prices?! Hmmm!
